Okay, so I brought my acoustic with me on vacation this year because I wanted to broom my dusty fingerpicking. I have never been a big fan of fingerpicking because my nails are soft and break easely, mainly because of my work as a car mechanic. But this year I had a secret weapon, on the island where I went on vacation, there was a health shop which had false nails intallation service. So I went ahead and had them fit three nails on my picking fingers because I could'nt wait for them to grow.

I should have tried this years ago, the picking motion becomes so natural. The nails are hard as stone and as they grow you simply add some hardening filler behind the false nails and after a while you are left with your own nails topped with some kind of epoxy. A little weird looking but hey, I don't care as long as the job is done.

So anyone else tried this? :)
See ya.

Can't say that I've ever tried (or even seen) that. But, hey, if it works.

I personally prefer to flatpick or use the tips of my fingers but i have known people to use fake nails for this. If the nails don't work out for you you could try finger picks. They work pretty good aftre you get used to them.

I'm not a fingernail fingerpicker, but I know that superglue works wonders on hands shredded from hard strumming. It should serve to glue shattered fingernails back together again. As an alternative, you can invest in some of that clear, lacquer-like nail polish. I'm not ashamed to admit that I've done it!

I've been playing fingerstyle guitar for about 15 yrs, and never grow my nails. I don't like the feel of it, the sound is too bright, and I also play electric as well as bass. Nails on my right hand are not good for playing bass :)

Hi Claude: no woman has ever been able to know me without having her nail repair kit raided frequently! The smell of acetone is familiar to my nose...

Your nails are soft and break: mine seem to be brittle and break. Rare are the times I have a good length thumb nail and three fingernails all at the same moment!

But then I'm a feeble fingerpicker, so I guess it don't matter too much...
