my 11 year old son got a fender standard squire strat with a 2-point fulcrum bridge. he had his eye (and heart set) on a maher strat copy that had a cool paint job... which he played for the first half of his guitar lesson. i talked him into plugging the squire in for the second half. i told him to click on his cry baby and and try voodoo child... as soon as he heard it, his face lit up! we put the maher back on the rack and took the squire home.

NICE GUITAR!!!

i think i'm more excited than my kid :)

Good for him. I hope he enjoys it. He's got one heck of a dad.

I tried to get my daughter to buy into a Squier CV 60, she insisted on the dark blue Lace Huntington. Funny thing is I went ahead and bought a CV 60 for myself and now she wants to play it over her Lace. Imagine that.

both guitars were at the shop on consignment. my boy really wanted that maher. his (and my) guitar teacher tried to convince him for 20 minutes that the squire standard was the better... far better... guitar, but my seth would have none of it. he wanted that maher in the worst way... and it was absolutely killing me.
it was encouraging that it turned out to be how the guitar sounded that mattered to my kid, more than the cool paint job.
i told him if he didn't get that guitar, i was going to buy it for myself.
i'm a happy (and a little jealous) guy!

They are just good guitars whether as a back-up, beginner, or what ever. I bought the Squier CV 60 as a back-up for my Fender, funny thing is I play it almost as much as my Fender.

I was going to buy a MIM Fender Standard, but the Squier CV 60 just sounded and played better than any of the Standards I tried. I play my Fender HWY 1 60% of the time and the Squier 40% of the time. Honestly it depends on what I am playing as to which one I pick up. Although I think this is about to change once I do my Facelift/Mod to my Fender.

not sure a sharpie would do much... the body's black metallic. the teacher has a leftie strat. when i brought the squire in, he gave it a try and blasted out some licks playing the d@mn thing upside down... he blows me away. he was surrised how much it sounded like a good ol' fashioned "fat strat". the action was a little low, so i raised it up a little. seth loves it!
