i would like to learn to play one.

I've never tried pedal steel, but I play slide quite a bit. I would love to learn, but I can't justify the $$$ to get one.

im not even sure who makes quality steels

i know of emmons and thats about it

I know there is a good bit of difference between the two, but maybe you should consider a lap steel? They are a good deal cheaper than pedal steels, at least the entry level models.

ive thought about playing one until i felt i could figure out the pedal.

i dont have much slide experince
