I've thought about this from time to time. It seems everytime Fender came out with something new, it didn't catch on for very long -- the Coronados were very different from anything Fender did before. I liked the Lead series, especially the Lead III with the extra switches for the humbuckers. Recently, there was the Cyclone that had the bridge humbucker that is so popular today. And my favorite, the Esprit -- chambered body, set neck and humbuckers -- I don't believe Fender ever gave either version of the Esprit a real chance to take off.

What are you looking for?

For sh*ts and giggles - how about a semi-hollow Strat or how about adding a maple archtop model? How about designing a system where we can plug and play different pick-ups. It can't be that difficult to design a system to make a universal mounting system for different style pickups. Were using low tech electronics compared to what we can do these days. Why can't we solder the wires to a base plate and have the pickups snap in and out of place. Love to be able to pop out a single coil and plug in a Duncan humbucker or P90. I just want to see some of the big boys push the limits like they used too. Its what rock and roll is all about.

Well those are interesting ideas! But you wouldn't need so many guitars if you could mix and match. I don't know if Fender would think it was a good idea.

While I'm thinking of it, I always wanted to know why Fender (USA and Japan) reissued the Jazzmaster with the buzzy bridge. Was it to be historically accurate? Maybe you could introduce a Vintage Modified version with a Mustang (or similar) bridge which is nearly identical tonaly and visually to the original without the annoying buzz.

Sorry, I've been wanting to get that off my chest for years.

I think fender are doing a pretty good job all round. But as many of the people here have sort of overlooked.... thats not the point of this thread.

What would I ask fender if I had the opportunity?

1) Please bring back the Frontline magazine?

2) Before you do, or even if you dont, please fix the color chart on the web page?

3) Greater interface with your customers (although this very forum means they are addressing that :D )

the Frontline magazine is a small but avidly desired peice of Fender memorabelia. For those who dont believe me check out some of the prices the orginal mint condition frontline mags go for. Not bad for something thats free!!!

As for the color's. Well its a fact of life that internet/mail-ordering/ catalogue ordering is a way of business and a very viable one at that. There are shops in a lot of cities where the shop is a bunch of benches with catalogues. Here people order everything from groceries to house hold furniture.

Some of the colors on the web page a just plain wrong and they have been that way for a long time. I'm talking years, not months here. If your going to discontinue your mag and run a web page then it needs to be accurate.

If I ordered a "anything" from a catalogue (internet or otherwise) and what appeared was so different to what was shown I would have seriuos grounds to return it. This is the predicament Fender puts its dealers in everyday.

I would tell Fender that they do a great job and Fender's are my favorite guitars, but I would ask if they could bring back the Coronado and Coronado XII but with P90's or the humbuckers used on the '72 Tele Deluxe Reissue.
