I'd tell em there is nothing "sinister" (your word not mine) about running a capitalistic business which has its marketing dept. set up a forum to ultimately aid the bottom line through improved customer interaction. Last time I checked, making money was not illegal. And it's Fender.com. not Fender.org.

If Fender doesn't make money, we may all end up with Cerberus-era Fender gear which I guarantee you will be far worse than CBS-era Fender gear. I mean, at least CBS didn't screw up my silver-face Princeton Reverb!

Long live Fender! A profitable American company bought back by its own employees who restored Leo's original vision of value, quality and innovation. And KICK*** TONE!

Start selling necks again. It costs a fortune to buy a Hendrix guitar. And besides, I hate not only 22 frets, but I also hate having a rosewood board with a "skunk stripe."

Why the hate ???
Just say it's not your cup of tea.

!. More clearly explain how to adjust the truss rod to a simpleton. I'm still getting a small amount of fret rattle on the 5-7 frets on my Highway One. I pick fairly heavy and the strings are only 9s. With 10s, which I have from my last guitar but haven't put on yet, the problem may dissipate because of the additional tension on the neck. Still, I'd like to better understand how to adjust the truss rod. For example, on the set up guide explain how to access the truss rod, which way to turn it to raise the action, etc.

A good question and one a lot of other forum users might benefit from a good answer. Hopefully this helps:

Have you ever heard the old phrase "righty tighty lefty loosey"?

Just like a screw going into wood, when you wish to tighten the tension on the neck, bringing the strings closer to the frets, you'll want to twist the truss rod to the right, or clockwise. If you want to loosen the tension and let the strings come higher up off the fretboard, twist it to the left, or counter-clockwise. The adjusting nut on different Strats, Teles, and other Fender instruments may be adjusted at either the headstock or heel of the neck, depending upon the model, but the principle is the same.

Relax the tuning on your strings a little bit before you start, then go slowly, tightening or loosening only a quarter-turn at a time and re-tuning to check your progress until it feels right to you.

You might have to make a minor adjustment to the truss rod any time you change string gauges (like from .009s to .010s). Just a guess, but if you've been playing light gauge strings and playing hard, your strings are going to buzz if they're set very low. Changing to .010s probably raised them a little bit from the fretboard. You'll also notice this happens when seasons change from dry to humid conditions.

If you get the chance, try to practice on your buddy's guitar; he probably won't even notice (don't tell him I told you that!).

If you're unsure how to tackle this adjustment, please, PLEASE seek the advice of an experienced player or tech in your area!

What about bringing back the Esprit? The Fender version ended with the sale of the company. Inconsistent quality killed the Squier version. By all reports everyone loved those guitars. Maybe the third time is the charm?

Oh, and I liked the printed catalog, too. It's more portable than a laptop.

How 'bout lets stop prouction in offshore factories and make Fender an all-American company again. Some of the foreign made stuff simply isn't up to the standards a company like Fender should demand in a product with their logo on it..........just my 2 cents worth.

Really? I find my MIM P's to be closer to what a Precision should be then to either the "upgraded" HWY1, or the AS P basses. Graphite support rods in a P bass...does anyone actually LISTEN to what that does to a P? No thanks!!! Greasebucket tone circuit? S-1 Switch? It's a P bass, don't screw with perfection.

Sure the AVS and CS Time Machine P's are second to none, and actually I'm going tomorrow to check some out, and if things go well, I may have to part with two out of my three MIM's. However, I can tell tell you this...the basses I play will have to earn their place in my stable, I don't buy an instrument because I have some preconcieved notion that it's country of origin makes it better. I buy it because it plays the way I want, period. The AVS and CS TM basses are built to vintage specs with correct materials...that's why they are superior, it has nothing to do with where they are made, or who's hands make them.

Oh yeah....

More stock color options on the AVS and CS basses would be nice. Maybe a few of the period correct Custom Colors, atleast for the AVS'.

Jeremy,

That's a good simpleton explanation but you're still not low enough to be at my level yet. What's the Allen wrench size that's needed - is it 1/8" for a Highway One (upgraded) Strat?

I'd love to have nut width options.I'm rarely comfortable below the third or fourth fret. And I'm sure there are players with petite digits who would love narrower necks.
Also I'd love to see some of the lesser known Fender models from the past revived.Such as the Coronado,Starcaster,Katana and so on. I'm sure the market for these rarities is as small now as when they where originally made, but perhaps one model each year as a limited run? The annual "Back from obscurity" limted edition.

TKP: I'd guess Greg has tried the admittedly rock-bottom Squire Affinity series from China like the '51 Tele which sounds great, looks great, but has this unplayable skinny neck and the worst, sloppiest fret work in the history of the company. I literally cut my finger on a razor-sharp fret edge. Those things are dangerous.

But if you're going to be a player in the guitar game, you pretty much have to have a crude and ultra-cheap starter line, which feeds upwards into better stuff inside your brand. Margins in musical instruments are brutal, and if you don't strategize across the whole spectrum of prices, you'll be out of biz. They just need to include a box of Band-Aids with each axe.

"Starcaster"

They've got the "Starcaster" at Target with a little amp in a pack. I'd like to see them drop it or call it a Squier. Guys, protect the Fender name. Only the good stuff.

make more models in the highway one line such as jaguars, mustangs, jazzmasters etc... because i think people who like these models and are a little short on money should be able to get these guitars without having to pay over 1,000 dollars or having to go through ishibashi.

That's an amazing idea dude. I'd pick up a Highway One Jaguar if it was available.
