Fender went to the top because Leo Fender listened to players and designed for them. This forum is a chance for Fender to keep listening. Here's my two suggestions. I hope others will contribute and that somebody at Fender is listening.

I'm a hobbyist level guitar player. I play for small audiences occasionally but I don't gig. So, here are the issues for the small fry like me:

!. More clearly explain how to adjust the truss rod to a simpleton. I'm still getting a small amount of fret rattle on the 5-7 frets on my Highway One. I pick fairly heavy and the strings are only 9s. With 10s, which I have from my last guitar but haven't put on yet, the problem may dissipate because of the additional tension on the neck. Still, I'd like to better understand how to adjust the truss rod. For example, on the set up guide explain how to access the truss rod, which way to turn it to raise the action, etc.

2. Create awesome, inexpensive low-powered tube amps for your loyal hobbyists. We aren't famous but we play for the enjoyment of it and we want the Fender tube tone. The Blues Junior is great (if my wife will give me one and before we got married I know she would have) and so is the Champion 600, and so that's definitely going in the right direction.

3. Quality and reliability are where the rubber meets the road. We're here in 2007 and everything works. We expect things to work perfectly every time. I'm not talking about a tube burning out, because that's just maintenance, but the solder complaints and so forth. You've got the loyalty from the heritage and the sound.

The one thing I would love is to be able to swap my tremelo arm from the bottom to the top without having to alter the guitar.
The main reason is the trem arm doesn't work properly on the bottom,it forces you to move in the wrong strum path.Stevie ray and Jimmy both mention this effect, that is why they kept them on the top.See for yourself, hold the trem arm in your palm and strum,it will force you to hit the top string closer to bridge and the bottom string closer to the neck. This is the exact opposite of your natural motion.

Bone/Brass nuts as standard?

Meh! Personally the only complaint I have about my Jazz bass is the wiring could have been better but that's easily fixed (and is a good excuse to upgrade the pickups ;p)

Upgrade options! Stuff like being able to mix and match already available parts. Being able to select the paint, the pickguard, and the hardware
(chrome, black or gold ) so you don't have to track it all down as aftermarket and incur extra expense beyond the cost of the standard, catalog guitar. Any of these changes, as I have been told, will turn the order into a Custom Shop project.

(And for this great suggestion, please send me a Surf Green '57 with gold hardware.)

Start selling necks again. It costs a fortune to buy a Hendrix guitar. And besides, I hate not only 22 frets, but I also hate having a rosewood board with a "skunk stripe."

NO MORE METRIC SPECS!!!

It just screws everything up. String spacing, screw threads etc. Just because it comes from a foriegn country doesn't mean the specs have to be metric. For petes sake, send some tooling over there or something.

It's terrible when you have to chase down parts and then hope that it fits your guitar. Usually you have to settle for less just because of this.

It's also pretty lame when you take a saddle screw into a hardware store for another one, and then have the expert screw guy ask you: "What planet did you find this screw on"? :(

Here in Europe you can choose between normal or USA size screws
and parts or cheap Japanese pots versus CTS pots etc.
Inches to mm's, i use a calculator.
It's a big world out there !

How 'bout lets stop prouction in offshore factories and make Fender an all-American company again. Some of the foreign made stuff simply isn't up to the standards a company like Fender should demand in a product with their logo on it..........just my 2 cents worth.

WHY :?:

The way it is now, everyone can buy a Fender(Squier).
Even schoolboys can buy a nice guitar and later on they maybe can
buy a USA Fender.
Think global, not local.

make more models in the highway one line such as jaguars, mustangs, jazzmasters etc... because i think people who like these models and are a little short on money should be able to get these guitars without having to pay over 1,000 dollars or having to go through ishibashi.
