I like my Guitars/Basses setup with the neck as straight as possible and the action as low as I can get it with no buzz.
I am developing a very light touch and find that setup much better for me.

i typically like a bit of relief in the neck... not perfectly straight. This helps with me keeping an extremely low action which is easy to play (a reason why I am also a huge fan of Ibanez guitars). I like easy to play actions, I dont like giving my fingers a workout when i play.

i find that i get a better sound quality with high action. i use light gauge strings, too.
low action results in the strings sounding dull.

Do you use higher than recommended specs?

I have my guitars set up for what I would call average action.

Medium-high, I like to be able to dig in without getting too much fret buzz.

Trial and error. I might have to experiment on one of my guitars.

I have a compound radius Warmoth neck on my Strat, with 10-46 strings.

Acton is between 1/16 and 3/64 at the 17th fret.

WIth a capo on the first fret and fretting at the 22nd, relief measures .005 at the 12th.

Snaky low. I play with a mightly light touch, but I can still smack it pretty good without creating much fret rattle.

Lowest possible, slight bit of unamplified buzz is cool with me?

Some of my guitars are set with high action for slide and one is extremly low for very fast play, or as fast as my fingers will go anyway.

My Squier strats are set up like Fender recomends only with the action a little lower.

I've experimented with different settings. Right now I like to have the action set a little high. It takes less effort to play with a low setting but with it higher I think the strings respond better when I'm doing stuff like hammer-ons plus its more of a workout which I do enjoy.

I don't know how to classify my action. Each guitar is set up a bit diffently then the others. I tinker with em until they feel right. Some are high, some medium, and some lower but not real low. All have a wee bit of neck relief.

I like a medium action with some heavy strings and the natural relief in the neck

I like a medium-high action, slightly more than recommended amount of neck relief, and with the saddles raised a little higher than normal.
