I am thinking about getting The Real Book to learn how to improvise (even though I play the Blues, not Jazz) and my tutor suggested this to me.

Any thoughts or experiences?

I used the "C" versions....not sure about others....but learned a lot about 'passing' chords and jazz chord inversions.

It's great, mind-expanding stuff if you can handle the extended harmonies. For example, did you know that the chord progression from the "Perry Mason Theme" are actually based on "'Round Midnight?"

The Real Book is actually more important to me as a composer than a player.
