Forum user mondo500 spotted that the error message often comes up when trying to post a thread with a hyperlink in it that includes the % sign in its chain.

That definitely chimes with my experience several times. Right now I've been trying to post on this thread:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=26134

I wanted to include a link that included % signs but couldn't. Strange thing though: Orvilleowner had posted earlier on the same thread, and his post included a link with percentage signs.

So what's going on with that?

Cheers - C

Are you or Orvilleowner using the new version of Firefox by any chance?

Hi Mike: you think that's the clash, do you?

No, I use Internet Explorer. My wife has Firefox on the home computer as well, so next time I encounter the problem I'll try a different browser and see what happens.

Incidentally: a while back someone asked if people were having trouble with I.E.8. Snowy mentioned that he found it processor hungry, so I held off upgrading for a while. I finally did install I.E.8 on one of the computers: no problems with speed but I find the posting box on this Forum jumps around in a most annoying way when you're typing in it. Anyone else notice this?

Cheers - C

First time I've looked in this thread — thanks for mentioning that "%" problem, Ceri; I see that this would have been the place to bring it up.

Last time I looked into it, it was a problem with addresses containing "%" followed by the number 20. If you type just those three characters and try to preview your reply, you'll get an error message.

I think it happens when a URL contains a space – it automatically gets filled with those characters-I-cannot-type (which is probably HTML for "space"... I've no idea) and then your post goes all pear-shaped on you.

On IE 8 you shoud see a broken page, what it does is fixes the incompatibility of IE 8 and this site or other sites not ready for it. Give it a try. It is up by the address bar.

Thanks for that info RK. I was wondering what that icon was for.
Do you just hit the broken page button each site you go to or does it stay engaged once it's depressed? Hope that makes sense.

Sorry did not see that one. I know that on this site once I press it I do not have to press it again, unless I delete cookies and clear history (which I do a lot, I hate having tracking crap on my computer). I have not had any other problems on any other sites though, so I am not sure if you have to do this with each site.

Hi RK: just saw this. Excellent - thanks for the advice!

Just couldn't raise Bill Gates on the phone - now I don't need to!

Thank you - C
