I just started reading a book by Daniel J. Levitan called This is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession. It provides a fascinating look at what's going on when your mind processes what we call music.

My dad is a professor in music and is teaching a class on psychoacoustics at the University of Illinois... I will ask him about this.
