Looks like we're all in agreement here... I take impeccable care of my axes. When my jazz is forty years old I want the maple neck to be a deep amber, but I don't want chunks missing out of the purple finish. And if it does develop one or two, so be it, that is character that it developed throughout our years. But I don't want to buy one that has dings with no corresponding memories.

Sales of "relic'ed" guitars would seem to indicate otherwise.

roadworn guitars are not really a great idea from fender. it will make no sense if 2 people are playing on the same stage with the same identical worn guitar! fake!!

I'm anti-relic and proud of it. The guitars (and amps) that I've bought within the last 15 years or so still look brand new. On the other hand my Tele, which I've had for 41 years, looks like what the "relic'ed" guitars are trying to be. Do I prefer it to look that way? Not really. While all the battle scars have come under my ownership, most were made when the guitar was loaned out to friends or relatives, something I was inclined to do in my younger days. Most of the relic crowd have no better explanation of their preference other than "I like the look". The truth is, they just want to look like a rock star without actually being one.

How badly would you have to look after your guitar for it to end like some of those relic'd / road worn models? My Strat is 30 years old and obviously it's suffered the odd knock, but come on! It doesnt't look anything like the fake sh1t that Fender are trying to con us with. True vintage class will always show through. And a new guitar should look new, and deserves to be well cared for.

Yeah, I can't get too excited by the 'road worn' thing. The fact that they're all reliced in the exact same way is the dumbest part. What if you play a road worn Strat and join a band, only to discover the other guitarist owns the same model. Now you have two guys up on stage with two guitars worn out in an identical manner. That would look pretty silly now, wouldn't it?

I guess time will tell whether these guitars take off or not. My prediction is that they'll be discontinued after a couple of years and will then be sought after years from now as sort of an oddity...

So if a new guitar gets a little ding in it they drop to a lower "Ding & Dent"
price. Or they can give it to a team of experts to bang it up some more and raise the price.

I guess a few minutes with a bottle cap or something would work to create some differences between the 2 relics. The only advantage I can see to buying a beat up looking guitar is that I wouldn't panic every time I banged it into something. But for that price I could buy an old naturally beat up guitar and have enough money left over to put whatever parts I wanted on it.

A guitar should earn its' stripes. There's just something un-manly about the whole phony relic thing.
Of course, whatever turns you on...

those worn-out looks actually dont look and sound like an art to me,It appears to be due to the players' negligence to their guitars.should we like to buy and play these worn-out guitars then?while the copied guitars from their owners simply is worth nothing that they treat them like trash.

I am another passenger on this train of thought. The "new relic" thing makes no sense to me.

First off, my guitars are all special to me in one way or another. I consider each one important and worth protecting. As any player knows some damage over time is inevitable. But just like having a scar on your arm or something, if anyone asks you in 20 years how it happened, doesn't it seem more logical to say "old skateboart injury" than "I hit it with a hammer."

But people are buying them so maybe Fender knows something all of us don't. :?
