Greetings Fender Lovers
This is my first post to the Fender Forum and I hope it won't be too controversial. I hate these fake beat up guitars. Ok I said it, I have been playing since I was a kid and I'm all grown up now. I have a pretty cool guitar collection consisting of 36 pieces right now, 6 of them are American Strats, Deluxe & Standard, and a pair of American Deluxe Tele's. They are all pristine and I love them all. The American Deluxe Strat is always my go to guitar, and I wipe them down thoroughly after every use. To take a beautifully crafted instrument and intentionally crap it up is a crime that should send you right to guitar prison. Now don't misunderstand me, If John Mayer, Yngwie, Joe Strummer, etc wrecked their own guitars from years of use, and I could have that one...great, awesome, killer, but to fake beat one up and pretend that its like the one that the artist plays is sacrilegious. Thank you guy's for continuing to build beautiful quality instruments that inspire me to clean, wax, and treat them like the pieces of art that they are.
PS If you want to do something cool keep making "Crash" Strats

I'm with you. The whole Relic thing is just ridiculous. Wear it out yourself playing it if that's what you want.

Welcome to the forum; and I could not agree more with your take on fake relic syndrome that has taken over the industry. I guess people think it is an inexpensive/ easy way to look like you have a vintage piece.

WOW 36 pieces in your collection? I sure would like to see a picture of all those, as I would bet most on this forum would.

Again welcome and look forward to your future input here.

Cheers
Bill

It is one of those Love Hate topics is it not slapchop?
Me I am not a fan of the relic thing but if I picked one up and it played good and the price was right I would buy it. It all cames down to play and the sound but that extra cost they charge for beating them up is a joke so I would not watse My money to get it for the looks. Those fake looks are what they are fake looks and nothing more and 900.00 for a MIM guitar no way 350.00 yes I would buy. And there is no way I would pay for a Custom Shop Relic because if it comes from the CS shop it better be a well made beauty or a Closet classic.

I would have to vote on a new guitar looking like a new guitar. I always take special care of my guitars, to make them look new, as long as possible. After each play, I wipe them down, and from time to time, I give them a coat of guitar polish. I prefer them looking beautiful and like new. My guitars are special to me and I treat them like something very valuable. I have an American Deluxe Strat, but do most of my playing (my workhorse guitar) on my MIM strat. That is my battle axe. Even that guitar looks like new......with the exception of the pick guard, which does take some strikes, now and again, from the pick.

I guess I'm that way with all the things I own. I always take care of my property.

JR I agree with everything you said 100%. Slapchop I guess you are just being you lol. but Since this is his first post I would believe he does not know how many times this issue has been discussed and believe me it will again but it is a deeper topic than maple vs rosewood. Eveytime I cruise ebay everyone wants to know every ding dent and scratch I have never seen how destroyed is your guitar and only people whos guitars are beat to $@!& put relic in the listing if it is not a pro custom job. And those Crash guitars I just love .I thought fender was going to release a Clapton model they might of made a few custom pieces I dont know but I dig em. And as far as my axes go I still try to keep them looking as good as I can. To me the only thing that makes sense of relicing is a neck to feel like it has been played 20 years.

To each their own. I do not like beat up looking guitars either, but there is a market for Road Worn. All I can say is I will not treat my guitar like crap to "give it character". Been playing too long to know it will happen on its own.

Otside of the ruad worn series I really cant think of any other big selling relic model or maybe I dont care. But it seems all the other relics are top notch custom guitars from the custom shop and we know the guys that are buying those are 89% pure collectors not gigging musicians. So it seems that all these guys paying 5 to 10 grand for these hard to recreate relics dont really even play and are just buying stocks, Well for the guys who actualy play them because they enjoy them all the best. The other guys better hope they dont end up being a flavor of the week as they are going to have a lot of expensive ugly axes that cost a fortune that nobodies going to want. I read articles with guys like Eric Johnson who rather leave his vintage gear home and safe but the models he has the custom shop built for him are nice looking and not all decrepit I wonder why. I would hate to see guys lose a ton of money on custom shop axes that take a dive but I wish these guys laying out a ton of money for these guitars to encourage the custom shop to make more jewels like the Presidential strat or Rack Em Up tele which are just jaw dropping and not eye soars.

Yeah, I can't get too excited by the 'road worn' thing. The fact that they're all reliced in the exact same way is the dumbest part. What if you play a road worn Strat and join a band, only to discover the other guitarist owns the same model. Now you have two guys up on stage with two guitars worn out in an identical manner. That would look pretty silly now, wouldn't it?

I guess time will tell whether these guitars take off or not. My prediction is that they'll be discontinued after a couple of years and will then be sought after years from now as sort of an oddity...
