I know a lot of people love this forum, and want to pour out their feelings here. But I think it's a bit silly to post every piece of your non-musical life on here, when it really doesn't matter in the scope of music.

For example, do you really need to login to the Fender Guitar Lounge to post things like "My dog just died", "My grandma got her gall stone removed", "I stubbed my toe", "What am I fat?", "I got a new car!" and things like that? Really.

Yes, I know I don't have to read those, and I don't. It just seems like another instance of common sense being rather uncommon. Just me ranting.

Rant away...

...however, in this picker / Fender-hanger-outer's thoughts, the strictly musical stuf sometimes gets mono-tonic. We are all folks, most of us with lives and values and concerns beyond electric guitars and music.

And some folks here are e-pals...and this is a "lounge," so while we are predominantly Fender-ly and Guitar-ly and Amp-ly, a few wayward off-topic threads are actually rather welcome, here.

In another facet of this opinion, it's refreshing the admins are so classy, they let the "lounge" atmosphere (rather than music store) philosophy run free.

As you said, you're free to not open threads which you consider irrelevant.

I see your view, to a point. I don't come here to read about anything other than, I don't know - Fender stuff, or guitar stuff :)

If I didn't want to read JUST music stuff, I'd look at one of the other million forums out there geared toward whatever else I wanted.

But yeah, I guess having a free for all in a music forum is good.

Hey D how's the Windy City?
I don't think anyone could read every thread in this forum and still have a life. I am typically drawn to threads with a catchy title, anything with pictures of instruments, a tech thread I might be able to help with or more likely learn from and lastly anything with girls in it 8) I understand the frustration of sifting thru countless threads looking for one that gets your attention...Back to work

Well I have to say this tread could be viewed as being pointless, and the OP could be seen as being hypocritical. If you are not interested in someones dog dying or how there day at the office was, than I would suggest just ignore it and open the threads about music

I find it quite refreshing and interesting to see what goes on in the lives of other musicians.

All of us have the option of not reading a thread that does not interest us. I do not read every single thread on here.

People have lives too.

IMO - It's nice that people do post these things.
When my pets have died, I felt like I was dieing too.
I don't know what to tell them - other than I know it hurts more than words can say.

From the description on our main menu:
"The Fender Lounge
A general discussion forum to talk all things Fender, to banter about all things music, and to just jam with your fellow Lounge buddies!"

I think a few people have covered the lounge buddies concept already. I view the forum myself as a community of people drawn together by music, instruments and of course: Fenders. But we have more to offer than that. Do you just talk about work when you are with your co-workers? I know I don't.

True ... HOWEVER, only by doing it here will you get to have that conversation with others that you share a unique Fender alliance with. That's what is so cool. We are a like a small clubhouse of friends sharing an important bond. As opposed to just random people who want to discuss some random topic...
