i'm soon 20 and i started to self-taught playing guitar about 9 years ago. thanks to my mom (she used to be a guitarist) who taught me a few basic chords on how to play Hotel California, i made progress and until today, it's my turn to teach and instruct a bunch of school kids in my area to play guitar. i think it is quite effective if you want to be a self-taught guitarist but only in where you have the supporting surrounding to keep you on the line. 8)

ok it has been 3 years now & i consider myself being at a medium level. i guess if i practised every day i would probably be better :(
but im really proud of myself even if im not jimmy hendrix or ever be !

(however is better learning by yourself especially if you dont want annoying teachers over your head ! )

im semi-self-taught i guess. i've been playing for a year or so and just started taking lessons about a month ago. you definitly learn things in lessons that you won't learn on your own, but teaching yourself can open your mind to new things that lessons cant teach you. i think that if you work better by yourself, then you can teach yourself, but if you are the kind of person that needs instructions on everything, then definitley get lessons.

I n 1970 (when i was 10 years old) I was taught E, A and B7 (I might of been told the names of the chords...but i sure didnt remeber them) I played them for about 3-4 months. I got tired of waiting to learn more so i started watching other people play and copied them Im about '76 I started learning the names of the chords I was playing (up til then learning new songs i just watched the others play them)

Because of that i play great by ear and eye (the bad habit if i see someone changeing to a chord even if i know its wrong....my fingers go to that chord)

Now 39 years later I have been thinking on taking lessons, but i keep thinking about the old dog thing.
