I bought a Champion 600 reissue for the very reason that i can't crank up where I live. Even that is parked around 7 or 8, since that is where it breaks up how I want, and i get the tone I need.

Even gigging, I can't think of a time where I ever cranked any of my amps all the way up. I tend to get the tones I like around the 7 or 8 out of ten positions. I feel bad for my older bigger amps, though. Although they still sound damn good at lower volumes, they don't sound their best until they start really working. As I don't play in a band anymore, and where I live I just don't have the opportunity to use them in the way they really shine.

I am loving the little Champ 600 though. it is really responsive to my guitar's controls. Great tones, and I can get a huge range from it, just by rolling the volume control on the guitar.

i have a Hot Rod DeVille 410, and the most i've had it up to was a little less than 3. the house was shaking a lot, so any more than 5 could be dangerous lol.

Only if I want to sound like Neil Young. It's a Pro Junior though, so it is quite crank-able. I don't often go past 8...

I did dime my old Peavey Bandit 65 once, just to see what would happen. It was awesome.

proly around 2 or 3 most of the time. when the neighbors piss me off i'll go to about 4 or 5 with my bass, 300 watt head and 2-15 cab. can't remember the last time anything was up more than 5. 5 rattles all the window in the hood. might try 8 with my radius and a set of ear plugs

When i want to annoy my neighbour (who i utterly despise) i max my 2 100 watt jcm's. Thats a magical experience in the house. Once I left the guitar feeding back and went out to the shop. Returned to find the police about to break down the door. They said something to me, i replied 'hold on mate i cant hear you someones making a terribe racket'.
That got me a night in the cells.

Rest of the time i use em with an attenuator and the amp volume set around 6-8.

I leave my 5f1 on 8 where I like the breakup and attenuate slightly with a Mass.

Isn't it wonderful how the guitar can be, in addition to everything else, a weapon with which to exact revenge?

One time I woke my brother up by plugging my big Peavey in outside his bedroom, turning everything up to "10" and leaning my Les Paul against it. It was awesome, but I had to flee for my life afterwards!

I think this kind of escapade is the true use for electric guitars. That ones better than pepper over the eyes when someones asleep.

Never snooze on my sofa.

Never.

I have a gig at a small church to play happy birthday and a 15 watt Crate. Somehow I don't think it is going to make any difference how loud I turn it up if there are a lot of people. It's easy to play loud in an empty room.

Still I would like to see how it sounds before I trade it in.

Nostalgia question in my case. Back in the late 60s/early 70s when I was a lead guitarist, I'd usually have my 100W Bassman running around 6. But I dimed it for a couple of outdoor festivals.

Before that, my first amp was an Ampeg Jet and I remember the first time my parents weren't home and I'd had my guitar long enough to know a few songs. I invited a few friends over, we "found" a few beers and I cranked it. My one brief shining moment as a True Rock Star with the Jet on 10, the windows shaking and ...

... of course ... the neighbors calling the cops!

Nowadays, the SCXD never gets past 4 on clean setting (lower on the other channel) and the Super 210 runs around 3. When playing bass with a singer/guitarist I sometimes work with, I have the pre-amp on the Bassman 210/250 running about 3/4 but the master volume (no numbers on it) is pretty low. I'd say maybe around the equivalent of 3.
