For all those guys with tube amps (if you have a solid state, why not?), how often do you get to crank it up past 6 or 7?

As for me, I crank my champ when I'm alone. Because if I do it with someone around the house, maybe, just maybe, I might get a one way ticket out!

I ask this because it is a very special occasion for some.

I'm past 6 most of the time. I only have tube amps with built in attenuators!

If I went past 6 either my ear drums will go first or maybe the windows

That is why I am looking at amps with half the power.

I had a 15w Zakk Wylde Micro Stack that I used to turn all the way up, and frequently.

If I'm checking out a new pickup, I'll cramk it up to see what it does at higher volumes. But for the most part, that's all anymore around the house.

If I'm playing an outdoor gig un-mic'd I'll crank up the Deville. But being in a Reggae band now, I just don't have a need to turn it up as loud as I did when I was playing hard-core.

1. At every gig.

2. When I'm at home and there's no one around to yell at me.

3. After every band practice if we have time to jam.

Not frequently. If I am home alone, sure, I'll just blues it up on 13... but after a while, it starts to smell like burning plastic, so I have to stop and put it down to 10. O.-

For the most part, it's below 3.

I never get past 4 even when I am home alone. I do not like having to use earplugs when I practice at home. I am not in a band anymore so, no need to go any higher.

Not very often. Once in a while the neighbors will be gone and I'll crank it up a bit but that's about it.

If I'm home alone I get to turn it up to about 4 (and the knob actually goes to 11, so I'm a failure as a rock god). The incipient breakup at that level makes me think this amp really wants to be up at 6 or 7. All my neighbours are pumping out new babies left, right and centre, so I don't like my chances of going higher than that for a while.

I never really need to or even "want" 'to. My boogie never has to go past 4 or so since you mic it to mix things better. Even when you play large venues and arenas, well - especiallly the bigger places, you don't want too much stage volume since you're mixing it all in the board anyway.

I've played a few large outdoor jams, like 450-800 people or so, not miked where I've turned it up to like 5 or 6 maybe. But it's so damn loud, I wouldn't want it any louder than that though. Pointless.
