It's been 7 weeks and six days. However I am not going to lie to you. I have cheated with a couple of puffs on a couple twisted Friday nights. but other than that I'm doing great. I don't really notice any difference other than my breathing getting better, and for some reason I feel like I can do almost anything now. But as far as the food tasting better, and being able to smell scents better, I haven't really noticed. Around my office that's probably a good thing. Thanks to all in the forum who lent their support when I first began this journey.

Congrats. It is hard, I know. Keep it up and if you should stumble, do it again.

Don't worry so much about the lapses, just stay with it man!! I quit 5 years ago, if I can do it then anyone can.

The cravings are bad after a month, then about 3 months more cravings, then 6 to 8 months cravings , then only really minor cravings after the 1 year mark. The cravings are short and powerful, but they will pass if you can just hold out.

Stay strong and fight it bud! Just hang in there and before you know it you'll be cursing everyone that lights up one of those foul smelling things not just because you are jealous!! :) , but because you genuinely find them repulsive.

'Was told by a doc years ago, if you really think you need a blast of nicotine, lick an ashtray before you light up. "What do you mean you don't want that on your tongue? You used to put it on your tongue and in your lungs, when you smoked."

Best of fortune.

Keep it up guys! You're just beginning the journey.

I have just over 9 years now!! I smoked for over 30 years and I'm paying for it now.

If you don't smoke, don't start. If you do smoke, quit.

I've smoked for 20 years now and now i want to quit because my breathing isn't what it should be. What is the best way? Should it be cold turkey or should i try and ween myself down slowly? My wife smokes also and i think if she doesn't quit also it will be twice as hard to stick with it.

Talk to your Dr. You will probably have to go to Smoking Cessation classes. There are some great meds to help you quit now days.
When I quit I tried the patch, it got me down to smoking about 5 or 6 a day. I just couldn't get passed that. Then I got a prescription for Zyban and have been smoke free every since I finished the cycle (6 - 8 weeks). My wife continued to smoke throughout my quiting and she still smokes now, even though I have been after her to quit for my health as well as hers.

I really think its going to be a white blonde on a ash body. Like the mary kaye strat.

Had to quit the job today. £30 for 3 days work, this recession is terrible. Our national open borders policy has led to a lot of migrant construction workers coming here, undercutting the english guys. To boot their being paid to offshore accounts to avoid tax.

Still i didnt light up, even on the 4 hour journey home. I'm even starting t enjoy fighting the cravings when they come now, and thats becoming less frequent.

Mike atleast your politicians want to appear to be doing something about it. Our idiot home secretary is blatant about his lack of concern.

All this from a goverment that wasnt elected. I'm voting BNP in 4 years.

1. The best thing to do is for you and your wife to try to quit together. It is a little easier with a good support system.

2. Try to wean yourself off. Cut down to 2/3 what you normally smoke, then down to 1/2, then 1/3, then finally 1/4. Try to only smoke 4 or 5 cigarettes a day. Once you are there you can try cold turkey. If ya'll aren't able to go cold turkey, you can use the 7mg patch, gum, or loznge for about 2-3 weeks. Once there just go cold turkey again. Remember smoking is a two way addiction, physical and psychological. I used to use small lollipops or strong mints (Altoids) to use for the hand to mouth pattern I was used to.

3. If you still cannot quit, see your family doctor and see if they have suggestions. There are non-nicotine treatments out there like Wellbutrin or Chantex. Be careful anout the crazy dreams.

Best of luck to you, it is very hard, but beats having severe emphysemia later down the road.
