Ok on my squire bullet strat my middle pickup keeps dropping down into the cavity and I figured out that the problem is that the screw hole on the pickup itself is stripped so only one side of the pickup drops what do I do to fix the stripped hole in the pickup? Hopefully I don't need a new middle pickup. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Mike, we can get that pickup up and functioning perfectly!

Read this whole thing first before starting.

Needless to say, protect the pickup's coil as best as you can at all times.

Is the foundation of the pickup fibre or plastic?

If it is fibre, using a toothpick or similar device, sparing dab the stripped threads with a white glue such as Elmer's, just enough to coat the threads thoroughly but not to where the glue is dripping all over the place. Next, cut some cardboard shreds and line them around the inside of the stripped hole using the dabbed on glue to hold the shreds loosely in place. Try to leave some kind of clearance in the center of the hole. It doesn't matter for now if the shreds protrude out of the top and bottom of the hole. Let this sit and set up for about 15 minutes or so and then start threading the height adjustment screw down the center of the hole. With the screw protruding from the bottom, let it all sit for a few hours until you are reasonably sure the glue is dry. Lastly, unscrew the screw and cut off the excess shreds above and below the hole. Remount the pickup and life goes on as before.

If it is a plastic foundation, use Crazy Glue or similar in lieu of the white glue and razor cut some plastic shards in lieu of the carboard shreds. Follow the same procedure as above to the same end with the only exceptions being: After like a minute or so, you can begin to drive the screw in and after another minute or so, you can remove the screw and cut the excess off and then, remount the pickup.

Either way, you'll be right back in business!

Take your time and don't rush. And if you're not in the mood, leave it alone and come back when you are.

Superior planning = Superior results.

I had this problem and fixed it with some soft wax, not candle wax.
