I thought I had posted about event, I write 'event' because this bootleg recording has never been released. Live At Woburn presents a 100% previously unreleased concert recording capturing The Jimi Hendrix Experience in concert at the Woburn Music Festival on July 6, 1968.

Pre-orders are now being taken, I pre-ordered mine last week.

I was thinking you had too, but after I hit the submit button. Always good to remind people of new Hendrix material though!

That is so true, and I'm glad you posted. This CD is really a big deal for Hendrix fans. I have just about live Hendrix concert that was taped by Jimi and fans, and this concert has never been 'released' by the person who taped it.

I know some people are thinking "Well, Hendrix played all the songs before.", but to me Jimi never plays the same song, the same way twice, ever.

Also, later this year Experience Hendrix will release 'The Jimi Hendrix at The Royal Albert Hall' on DVD & Blu-ray. I have a copy of the never released film, but it's a 3rd generation copy. The RAH concert is being mastered from the original film stock.

Jimi plays 'Little Wing' at the RAH concert, and it's that version that was featured on the OOP 'Hendrix in the West' album. Here is the live version from a bootleg copy of RAH http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nePm-L0aa-E.

Thanks for the info.

Usually they come out with these closer to Christmas time.
I look forward to at least one present every year!

My copy of 'The Jimi Hendrix Experience:
Live At Woburn' arrived in the mail, and I took a break from recording to listen to it.

It is a two track soundboard recording, I can tell the recorder was overwhelmed by the stage volume, but still listenable, and enjoyable for me.

Also they were beset with buzzing, crackles and otherwise unwanted noises throughout their set

Jimi tells the crowd of 14000, that the EXP hadn't played out in awhile, they had been recording 'Electric Ladyland', "We're just going to jam." and jam they did thru these songs:

1. Introduction (1:07)
2. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1:11)
3. Fire (4:19)
4. Tax Free (10:11)
5. Red House (11:30)
6. Foxey Lady (4:55)
7. Voodoo Child (Slight Return) (6:38)
8. Purple Haze (8:10)

According to my files this was only the second time that 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)' was performed live, the first time was a couple of days earlier on the 'Here's Dusty (Springfield)' show on BBC.

The EXP hadn't played Tax Free that many times live, I can hear the different in the way Jimi approaches the song, still it's cool.

Again 'The Jimi Hendrix Experience:
Live At Woburn' isn't a pro recording, but it still a great historical musical document in the life of Jimi Hendrix.

I just did a search to see if anyone posted a review of this CD.

Do you have any further comments now that you've no doubt listened to it a number of times?

You're right, I've listened to quite a few times! It's like having a radio from the Twilight Zone where you've tuned in to the past. It just amazes me to hear this very early version of Voodoo Child (Slight Return) , and Tax Free as well (although the tape ran out close to the end).

Also, it reflects how good a bass player Noel was at being the 'anchor'. After Noel passed away, Mitch commented on how Noel never really worked on his bass skills, but his style of playing was what the EXP needed IMO.

I like a lot of the chromatic bass runs in Exp songs, but I guess a lot of them were suggestions from Jimi himself.

thanks, the CD's on my wish list, I'll pick it up soon or suggest it as a Xmas present that my girls can buy me.
