That is really something special. It's a bit heavy, even with the use of some titanium, and I imagine the fingerboard is metal as well. It must feel strange to play but it sounded really good, IMO. Not much worry about dents or scratches either. Very cool, Mike.

On a side note. I read about the first 100% fully functional human heart being 3D printed. The heart was printed from the patient's own cells, so no fear of rejection and no immunosuppressant drugs. It has all the vasculature, chambers and valves of a normal human heart. It was done at Tel Aviv University and will be a major life saver in the near future.

The future is here, my friend. :)

Trying to catch up here. Lots of good stuff. Enjoyed the lessons/tips, Mike. Pretty interesting about the 3D heart, Marky. Sam and Dave two thumbs up.

Tommy Aldridge no disrespect. That Whitesnake (great band) vid reminds me of Animal on The Muppets. Frenzied. I know Tommy is a competent drummer, and Cozy Cole whom I met was famous for hand drumming the traps, but I hate the boredom when really good drummers attack the kit at full speed while omitting the musicality factor. With a large and/or small kit there are so many possibilities available that are often missed or not considered. Blah. Double and triple foot pedals, triggers and click tracks ain’t gonna help ya there unless you have an audience that either doesn’t know the difference or doesn’t care about playing and beating. Pretty boring IMHO. Sometimes, I wonder if they left their talent at home, or maybe they should drop the Speed (sic). Try being the great guitar player, and wimping out. A poor performance happens at any speed at times. I just find that today the crowd pays less attention to the music and musicality than the tempo and volume without dynamics. Just my two cents. I guess one could always please the crowd by pulling a Britney.

Me? Speed is not my forte’ in some rudiments, so I’m not one to speak of that alone, but I always try to do what I can for the rest. Practice, age, and time is my enemy. As for hands . . . musicians worth their salt know that a little show biz never hurts.
The Hellcasters did a superb job using all of what’s available on their instruments. I always appreciate that. Good one, Mike.

Okay, I’m biased, and I know nice guys (musicians) get a pass and miserable talented jerks sometimes do too if they have what it takes; but, for me, I think Animal does a fine job, so (like Animal) I’m giving Tommy a pass. Everyone has an off day.

Rock wasn’t Buddy’s forte’ that’s for sure, and yet Neil Peart was his favourite drummer. How’s that for a recommendation?

I was lucky to have seen Buddy up close twice. It’s not what you see, it’s all the tricks you may not see that made a difference. His head for arrangements, along with his associates, were a treat. I collected drum records by some of the greats, and with every BR performance I’ve seen or heard, I kept anticipating a mistake or sloppiness. Rich is human, some would argue, but aside from that, you’ll have to wait for some time to find any mistake. Considering how difficult his patterns were, his timing was immaculate as were his dynamics. He was an unreal perfectionist, and he set the bar for generations of great drummers of the past and for the future, keyboards and synths aside.

That said, technology, skills passed on down, and shared experience has raised the bar to a whole new level. Guys like Rich, Krupa, and others of their kind, never had the training available to percussionists in this era. They borrowed, adapted, improved, and invented their trade. Similar to drummers, evolved techniques benefit guitarists young and old alike. Not only does this allow the talented to shine, often at a younger age, it also gives the musician a kick start upon which to develop a higher level of musicianship. However, it also shows the failures and weaknesses when compared. It’s all relative comparison though. Always somebody worse, always somebody better. :P

A 3D printed metal guitar? Well, I guess one could call it cool, maybe just another derivative of CNC, or heavy. Now a challenging lightweight sweet sounding hollow body detailed Dobro might be a project to strive for. Still the 3D guitar you posted Marky is still a feat in itself considering the wood block Leo first used.

That said . . . My award goes to the innovative Relish guitar. That is über cool. 8) My guess is the cost is restrictive and worse, for some old school thinkers, plug in this or that, be they modules, controls. or pickups, and that presents a history of being here today and gone tomorrow. :?
Standardization or lack of, proprietary, and availability issues have not always been kind to forward thinking of guitar builders, including Fender. Sad, because some great concepts are lost in the shuffle while others are waiting to be discovered and, hopefully, embraced. Are we at the point where we talk tone plastics and acoustical metals? Sometimes, it makes me want to slap an apple decal on those that fail. Just don’t slap In a proprietary cord. But, hot dog diggity dog. I like Relish.
Thanks, for those posts, Marky.
