I feel that Jimi had found his holy grail tone at these shows:

- What Love Suite - The Collectors -

Use to see these guys lots in Vancouver. At the free Easter Bein concerts in Stanely Park
And a show I'll never forget at The Retinal Circus, 1024 Davie at Burrard in Vancouver.
Opening acts Papa bears Medicine Show and Velvet Underground (Lou Reed)
The Collectors came on stage around 1am.
They did the longest performance of one song, What Love Suite I have ever seen. Started around 0200 (Club should have been closed at this time) and went to about 0430 in the morning. When we left the club Sunday morning the sun was coming up ;-) It was an incredible experience

The Collectors was genesus of Chilliwack, Bill Henderson

This is another vid of a buddy of mine. He needs some comments to encourage him to get out and play. He just sits at home and whips this stuff out. If you like this please go give him your thoughts. He is so close to getting back into playing. But he doesn't think he's any good. He's a super nice guy too so thanks for helping.

Well that’s a no brainer, Indy. Your friend is better than a lot of players.

There will always be somebody better or worse. I think he should acknowledge that, and the more he plays the better he will get. It’s obvious he already knows that. So get out there and share the talent.

I’m far from being a great player, but there’s always welcomed encouragement from others that disagree with me regardless of their knowledge. There will always be someone to find criticism, but real musicians are more understanding, many have experienced development over time, and most are eager to have you in the fold. I say go for it. The playing won’t get any worse by playing, but as one who dropped out of playing for some time, that was a mistake that can never be recovered. Your friend has a talent that needs to be embraced. Besides, no matter what level a player is at, it’s about having fun.

Cheers!

This video has likely been posted here or elsewhere, I dunno; but, in the event that it hasn’t here it is:

He thinks Taylor Swift is the new "guitar hero"? Oh this explains a lot.

Yup! I hear ya. Still nothing new here in R&D, promotion, and distribution of guitars. There have always been hero’s and heroines of guitars. Potential and existing guitarists have always been generation influenced and heavily swayed to both acoustic and electric. Influences (although not complete) Chuck Berry, Les Paul and Mary Ford, Chet Atkins, Elvis, the Everlys, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, The Beatles, Hendrix, The Wilson sisters (Heart), and so on and so on sold guitars. Many of those acoustic players went on to play electric and vice versa. Look at early Rock. Much of it was Blues or Country related. Look at Country today. It is mostly Country Rock and crossover. Add singer songwriters like Ed Sherran and regardless of whether we speak of Country, rock, or pop, there will always be a similar scenario.

In the end popularity will be put in the hands of the recording industry and those who buy it. The Taylor Swift recognition is only following the pattern of others who came before her, and yes it could be why Fender is paying attention to their acoustic line. Not to worry though. Dylan made the jump to electric and it was a Fender then and Fender is sure to be around to fill that gap again.

Note: We often speak of recreating vintage tone with today’s and yesterday's gear. Trying to get a demo of music from that era with said gear is almost impossible and the abundance of distortion and metal sounds, fine as they are, take up way too much of the examples or options IMHO. This isn’t a slander on the hard stuff, I dig it too (at times), just that it has taken over so apples aren’t compared to apples any more.

I mention this because it relates to the TS thing. One might have concerns that acoustics will become the trend, while there are those of us (if there are others like me) that have concerns that electric (mostly amps) are gathering in one direction. There’s room for everyone me thinks. I want all the options I can get. YMMV.

Don’t get me wrong, I actually like TS, I just think of her as more of a “strummer”. Can’t think of any guitar solo in her songs offhand, and if there is one, she probably didn’t play it. Also a good chance she has other people play the guitar parts on her recordings.

Meanwhile this awesome girl guitar player has gone mostly unnoticed:

Hey there ghost_of_strings. That was a good video. I’ve never been a Jonas fan, but I appreciate talent when it deserves it all the same.

I think Jonas is doing his best work now and his band makes a big difference. You are right about the lead guitarist. Girls CAN rock. The bass player has some pretty great licks too.

You probably like these two female rockers too then:

I think you are right that Taylor doesn’t play lead (not unusual for a songwriter); but, she stills plays well at what she does.

Nick on the other hand:

That explains the band.

I think Canada’s home girl said it right:
