Opened for the 4th version of this band at the old Rockhouse in lincoln park. Great players great gear. The bass player used my rig, I was flattered.

Thanks Rollie. That is so cool that you opened for Bang Tango and the bass player used your rig. I bet he played better that night because your mojo was on the rig! :)

Alrighty. It’s great that you got to work alongside these guys, Rollie. I’ll bet that was a great experience. :D
I took the time to watch the Rockumentary on these cats. Lots to like about these guys. Lots to agree about comments in one of the best movies I’ve seen about a band. It is like an education for startup groups. I do see the separation from Bang Tango’s music in the beginning and the music throughout the band’s history. There’s plenty to like all over the place. However, I see and hear a difference, perhaps, in the commercial sense, and that can be bad or good as audiences change, but diehard fans are less likely to be swayed. As somewhat shown in the movie, it is a well known practice that following a well planned commercial route does pay the bills, unless someone decides to take a different route or gets a curve put in front of them. Of course commercialism is not the only way to earn a living, but it is one way, and that way, for the most part, has a proven system.

A lot of the story repeats what I have said many times. Music is a business, and it has to be approached or at least understood that to be part of the success, music can change, but the business is likely to remain the same or the change and/or evolution is set up to share a common goal.

I’ve also said the 70s had contracts paid out no matter what the investment. Bands at that time were also lucky or unlucky to thrive even though they may have had a cult following.

I believe the documentary said 5 years could be expected for a band if lucky. In the 70s it was said to be more like 6 months from oversaturation and competition.

Even producers and the industry were perplexed and often lacking direction by trending music. That’s one of the reasons they recalled vinyl recordings. They didn’t want to get stuck by choosing the wrong music of the day.

I remember how difficult it was to play music at an event when soft rock, hard rock, metal, disco, new wave, country rock and the like all showed up at the same time.

Whatever the case, all in all, Bang Tango were/are a band to earn the title of great. IMHO (and you can take that to the bank from some old dude that doesn’t care for spandex and Tinsel Town Glam wigs YMMV; but. I can and do appreciate the good music).
Thanks, for pointing me towards Bang Tango’s direction, SBLS. I wish them all a prosperous future in this topsy turvy world of music. :D

First video of the year. What a great find, Marky. That guy is crazy good. The sound of that triple guitar is very cool. Playing it must be like patting your head and rubbing your belly at the same time.

Thanks, for posting it. I enjoyed that.

Happy 2018!

Thx FSB, the movie was good. wry sense of humor is Chip who was at the show in 2009. Joe is Mister Cool. That night they did some new material that sounded like a harder edge of AC/DC.
Luca wow, thanks Marky.

A friend of mine. I am always just hoping someone sees this and this guy puts him in the spotlight somewhere so he can really open up. Lets see who catches the oddity in this video first. First time I have ever seen it.

Duh, I guess I could add the link...

Hot diggety boo! Thanks, for the Rockabilly/Surf posts, Mike. The Royal Hounds had me thinking of what it would have been like if Albert Lee and Bill Haley and his band had gotten together. I’ve never been to an Albert Lee performance, but in ‘65 I sat in a small night club just a few feet away from Bill Haley and The Comets (while under age) at a small reserved table, thanks to a friend of mine from the club who wouldn’t take no for an answer. Amazing how that works when you’re in a uniform. :P
The Comets have had many musicians join their rank and in ‘65 I believe Ray Cawley was the bassist. Marshall Lytle is credited as the original bassist and he and Joey Ambrose (sax) are credited with the Rock and Roll antics and acrobatics (such as riding the bass) that are still performed by groups today.

As for Albert Lee, here’s the Haley Country connection:

FSB

Factoid: My underage introduction to Bill Haley wasn’t all that bad. I just found out that Marshall Lytle, taught to slap a bass by Haley, was a teenager who looked so young he was told to grow a moustache. My guess is he was snuck into a few clubs too.
Yeah! Like that never happens in a band.
For the rest of you kids, listen to your parents.
