I agree completely, in some ways it is sad that both he and Buck Owens are remembered so much for their Hee Haw tenure. many of my friends (my age, younger have no idea,) look at me sideways when i talk about how much I admire them.

"Weren't they on that stupid country show?"

But on the other hand, i don't know where I might have encountered their playing if i hadn't seen it as a young tyke in front of the TV.

Roy is a huge favorite, along with Jerry Reed, who it pains me, many of my friends only know as Snowman from "Smokey and the Bandit" Myself and others have linked some of his killer stuff on earlier pages. I also remember an earlier link to Roy playing a stunning rendition of "Maleguena' on "The Odd Couple" TV show.

In that vein here's some Buck Owens:

I would listen to country if the mainstream stuff still had that kind of life.
Man, seeing this stuff reminds me how the recording industry has strangled popular music to death, especially country, it used to have a soul.

PS that's Don Rich on the tele.

Al Kooper
Bury My Body

Maybe we should add Shuggie Otis to the list of underappreciated guitarists. he was all of 15 at the time of this recording.
