I make my own custom sets using Dean Markley Flatwounds and Dean Markley Blue Steels. The reason is I like the tone and feel of Flatwounds but they only come in larger guages. I like to use 9's or 10's. By combining the sets I can get 9-42, 9-46, 9-48, 10-42, 10-46, or 10-48 sets.

Actually McCartney used Maxima strings.....made in Germany.

I use D'Addario on my Fenders and Carvin. I use Rickenbacker strings on my Ric.
