You get the impression that Jimi liked his Flying V, and Les Pauls and SGs. At the end he seemed to be playing the V a lot. I don't have any answers, but it does seem to be a fact.

jimi's woodstock strat wasn't his fav, his fav was his black one with the maple neck, fender should make that his tribut strat !! but the woodstock strat looks nicer lol

I don't really have a favorite song of his. I just know when I'm playing his music I play it loud, the way Jimi would have wanted it to be played ^^

I remember when Jimi first became famous,we all thought he was from England, and then I found out he was American....and then I found out that he had played here in Middle TN. in clubs in Clarksville and Nashville!
I still think about that because I was here and so was he,but in those days whites and blacks didn't mix much so you probably wouldn't have seen him if you were a white boy,but now years later things have changed and Nashville has honored him by mentioning him in a marker on Jefferson St. and he's in the Hall of Fame.
But way back when he was cranking out R&B in the nightclubs here with Billy Cox.
There was life before everyone was "Experienced".

Hi Straycat113, I was wondering where you've been recently! Good to see you back! :D

On Hendrix, I love anything off Are You Experienced. Awesome Album!

Speaking of Jimi, I long to be able to use his thumb-over technique for major barre chords on the 6th string, where you can use your pinky to suspend the chord. It sounds so sublime the way he (and other players) use the pinky to hammer on and pull-off on the high strings while playing a full barre chord. I can't do it though, or when I do, it sounds like crap. Can many of you guys do that? How long did it take you to be able to do it? I have fairly long, bony fingers, but when I try that technique I just end up muting a bunch of strings, or my pinky can't seem to creep underneath to reach the high strings.
Probably too much for a beginner to try, but I figure it I may as well start working on it now. Maybe in a few years I'll have it sounding decent. I'm also trying it on an SG. I wonder if a strat neck is better suited to this technique?

A lot of Jimi's unique technique came from the fact that he had abnormally long hands and fingers that enabled him to do the thumb-over barres with ease.Of course his amazing dexterity had a lot to do with it to.

Jimi is more than a musician and more than a guitarist. He is a visionary. he saw things and molded them into his beautiful free style before anyone else knew they existed.

I was one of the firs people to do a tribute to Jimi in the late 70's on Broadway in New York. I saw what happened to many people who got captured under Jimis shadow so I decided to stteo pout and find my own way. ( even Jimi had a very hard time being Jimi)

Its great to see that Jimis music and fire lives on in all of our playing.

God bless his soul.

If your curious to see where I have come with my own direction please do a search under Awesome John on you tube. I tried to be different and unique but still pay homage to my teacher.
