Here's mine. Some off brand, Conrad, that I got probably 30 years ago. I have a nut extension on it to raise the action for playing lap style. Usually open G or open D depending on the musical style.

Hey Chet, Enjoy the new guitar! How hip is that!

'Occasionally use the reso setting on the Line6 Variax, but not enough to want a real one...other than to have another guitar.

That said, at an SA or GC with time to boo-boo around, 'will oft pick up a reso in the acoustic room and proceed to dig it.

My Great Great grandma had a dobro from like the 30s she gave my great uncle who was going to give it to me but his crazy girlfreind stole it then left him.

The square necks are strictly for slide work either in your lap or standing with the guitar facing up.

Anyone got a squareneck? I've always wanted to one but they are a bit specialist! I secretly like all that bluegrass Allison Kraus etc stuff. The playing on her records is first class.

I'd play a resonator if I could find a cheaper priced biscuit cone I liked.
The closest I came to that was an Epiphone that had horrendous intonation on the low E.

Why secretly? It's no secret that stuff is awesome.

I agree the musicianship is excellent. The whole bluegrass scene is very much a minority interest here in the UK and there are some people who are a bit derisory about it. Oh well, ignorance always did breed prejudice!

Gosh, do you think? Can't play that stuff to save my life - but this Briton loves it! And everyone from Pete Townshend to Mark Knopfler and beyond have lifted licks from bluegrass.

At a glance I'm not finding a really good bit of Brad Davis on YouTube - but this is nice as a tiny taster. Sorry, not on a resonator:

Switch off the computer and get back to the practicing, Ceri...!

I have decided that I'm going to tune my incoming Resonator to Open G. I have a book here that I had purchased a few years ago called "Alternate Tuning Chord Dictionary" which will be quite helpful. I also just recently got a V-Pick Slide!!!

Have you got your resonator yet? Open G is good, open D too, use a capo for the inbetween keys! You've got really heavy resonator strings on it, haven't you (.16)? I used to like the two Ronnies - Laine and Wood - when I had mine, if you want an English slant on it all! (Roll On By, Gasoline Alley ......)
