I was thinking about signing up for the Guitar center King of the Blues competition..Is anyone else thinking about ?Has anyone else done it in a prior year..If you have what are the positive and negatives?I noticed Fender wasn't involved...Which bothers me due to the fact i prefer Fender amps and since there not a sponsor i doubt if there will be Fender amps available to use...According to the rules you must use the amps they supply you cannot bring your own..This is one thing i think will hurt me because alot of my tone comes from my Fender amps.
I have used Marshall in the past and they are a sponsor along with VOX so my second and third choice amps are available...If you have any knowledge about this contest or if you have an opinion please share what you think about it...

I just signed up. Last year I didn't even play blues, so I have no idea what it was like.

I really wish Fender was a sponsor, I'd much rather win a Strat than anything else, but I doubt I'll get that far so it's a moot question.

This is an excerpt from the FAQ section on the Guitar Center website:

" Q: What amps will the store be providing for me to play on?
There will be 4 of the following amps set up (see below). Keep in mind that the choices will vary from one store to the next based on availability. Feel free to check with the store ahead of time.

* Marshall DSL100 Half Stack or Haze combo
* Vox AC-30 or AC30CC2X
* Mesa Boogie 2x12 combo, Rectifier Half Stack or Peavy 6505 + Half Stack
* Fender '65 Twin Reverb, Hot Rode Deville 410, '65 Super Reverb or SuperSonic "

I was a little worried about the amp selection too because I really wanted to use my Fender, but it look's like Fenders will be provided. I'm going to go to guitar center about a week before the competition and try out all of those amps to see which I like best and figure out what settings I'll turn the knobs to so I don't have to tweak it with just five minutes for set up.

Thanks for the info i guess i overlooked that somehow..I will be playing with the 65 twin reverb then ..I play now through an original twin reverb so thats a pretty easy choice...Hopefully we will see you at the finals...Wouldn't it be a bi&#h for Gibson and Marshall if all the finalist played Fender guitars with Fender amps

The key word is availability, so you have to check which amp they have at the local store.
