Why do people take off the back plate on strats?

Is it bad if I leave mine off?

Every person I know takes their off and they don't say why.

The EJ strat doesn't even come with a trem cover. I have no idea why some people leave em on and some take em off. It can't affect the tone that much. It's probably a preference thing or someones favorite artist doesn't have a trem cover so they takes their's off.

Back in the old days, I think everybody took them off to make string changes alot easier and faster.

I took mine off because the edges of the plate always hang up on my belt buckle. Plus taking it off is just the normal thing to do, hehe.

I play with the bridge flush to the body(blocked).
The holes in the tremoloblock don't line up with the holes in the backplate
if the bridge is flush, so i leave it off.
Also easier to restring the guitar.
