Considering the company you keep you need to enter Tony. Good luck!

I entered the first KOTB back a couple of years ago and didn't even win the local contest :!:

I used one of 'Westside Chicago Blues' style backing track on the CD that was given out. It was about 3:30, I soloed, did walking bass line, etc for the entire song. People clapped after I was done :) .

Another guitarist whom I knew, was after me, when he passed me he whispered "I wish that I would have went before you". He picked one of swing/jump style tracks, he soloed for about 30sec, and than simply comped chord inversions to the main melody for the rest of the song.

This guy is also a guitar teacher, and it seemed that most the judges at GC knew him. Some other dude did SRV licks, and a dude did a delta blues.

The delta dude won 2nd place, when this was announced everyone looked at me like I had won 1st place......nope, the guitar teacher won (to go to the next round). The people that were there were stunned!

Later, one of the five judges came over to me and told that I was robbed. The guy that won was technically good, but didn't have any passion, the judge told me. He voted for me, and argued with the other judges as well.

I'm not going to enter the contest (I don't think), mainly because I do have a day job, and may not be able to get off work.

Plus, I have recording sessions with Snapper Mitchum, I need to finish mixing our second CD 'The Cold Backhand of Love' and start auditions for a bass player.

I talk to Ed White, our bass player at least once a week. His cancer is in remission but he's too weak to play.

There's always hope in these matters. Not too long ago a self-styled 'expert' publicly declared to an audience of millions that Jennifer Hudson had gone as far as she possibly could.

Doc

I just posted the exact same question a few minutes ago before i seen this thread...I think i will enter even though i will probable be the oldest guitar player there according to the register i seen at my local guitar center i'm 42 if anyone is interested ..The question that i can't find an answer to is i have cut 2 different lp's with an independent label and have played backing tracks on 2 lp's with a different band and on one EP for a touring band so i don't know if i qualify...
I didn't see anything in the rules that cover exactly what a pro musician is ..I do make a living playing guitar and doing vocals and giving lessons but im not signed or recruited by a major label..So i don't know if im considered pro or not?

Tony, enter if you can fit the competition in your schedule, hopefully those judges won't make the same mistake twice. Best of luck !

I already recorded as a member in several diffrent bands, and also had a indie release, so I think you'll be alright.

I was told that the judges will attend a 'judging class', so condition could change. I'm thinking about it more & more :) .

Don't let one incident with a bunch of stupid judges keep you away. It's not about that anyway. If you play your best and you know you played your best then you've won. :)

I understand your post, but I hate losing  .

Even when we open for national blues acts, or on a bill with local acts, I always tell the guys "Let's kick their butts!". I made so that none of the local acts wanted to go on after us, there were also national acts that regretted going on after us.

No brag, just facts :) .
