Hey guys i have a question for you, i was checking out some info on alice in chains jerry cantrell and i noticed he uses a G&L guitar, i did some research and i never knew leo fender had another company. They looked like fenders and were even built in the fullerton facility.

what do you guys think about this company, leo was quoted as saying these were his best guitars he made

Yes, The G&L that Jerry Cantrell plays is a "Rampage". Most if not all G&L's are built in the USA. And, in some of the neck joints Leo himself would sign them before leaving the factory. High quality, well made guitars........

don't know that they are the best leo ever built but they are great guitars and well worth the money. Ive never played a s-500 that i didn't like. not only was g&l owned by leo but also by george fullerton who helped design the stratocaster

When Leo came back to Fender he was a consultant he did not run the company. Leo came up ith the micro adjustment in the 3 bolt neck during his 5 year contract with CBS. Leo was part owner og CLF / G&L for a lot longer then he was owner of Fender. Making Music Man and Strat, Tele guitars. Leo 's wife is still an honoray member of the G&L board. G&L is now owned BBE Sound.

what was his reaction towards fender being built in japan when he was brought on as a consultant during his 5yr cbs run. From what i hear around various dealers that fender strats or any guitar built during the cbs era werent as good.

There where years that the Japanese copies were better then Fenders Tokia and Fuji Gens were better guitars in general. When Fender Electrical Instruments became Fender Musical Instrument they were trying to match the Japanese with the now present Fender company. If you ever see a Tokia Springysound

They did also ESP bought a company in Japan call Navigator that made some smoking hot LP copies for a few years the Esp started having them make guitars for them and today I think they still market Navigator overseas because of th reconition of quality from th 80's.

Thanks for the info cav, i never knew that.

All i heard about was the lawsuit ere explorers that esp was making. Its cool though, i do see a telecaster and strat copy from esp, the only difference is the headstock, and im sure the electronics too.

G&L looks to be a re-introduction of some sorts?

I have a G&L Legacy. Its a lower end G&L, but has a great feel about it. Real easy to play, but the tone is a little too bright for me. Still, by all standards a good well built guitar.
