A lung surgeon once said if you want the nico so bad while quitting, go lick an ashtray to get a dose

'Bout as gross as it gets. No thanks.

Hi Hop: I've been wondering the same thing. Very unusual silence.

It's either too soon to send messages of enquiry - or too late.

Hopefully he'll soon see this and know we're wishing him well. And hopefully it's just the cigarettes - cos at least quitting those is worth the pain...

Cheers - C

I was going to start a new thread asking about him. Kind of miss it when one of the regulars does not post for a few days. It has been slow posting for a week or so. Not the traffic there used to be. Oh well!

Mike's around. He and the wife got out to Campobello Island last weekend. Apparently took an acoustic along and got himself into an impromptu sing along with some of the locals.

Your self-confidence is encouraging. :)

I checked out that link. They were kind enough to spare you some of the surgical and autopsy patholgy specimens I've seen.

Rock on! 8)

I'm fine guys. My withdrawal has left me very short tempered and not really fit for the general public. Hence my absence. A minor brush with swine flu, a bout of depresion through zyban or nicotine withdrawal or my mental loss (absolute inability to tally up a column of numbers that i would ususaly do in my head in seconds). So i quit the zyban as well as the smokes, i'm mentaly sharper and less down too.

I'm happy to report the cigarettes are long gone. I even passed the "night on the lash" test lastnight as part of my wifes 30'th. Band practices are still a little difficult but i am confident of not caving in. Theres a little bit of emotional blackmail i've used on myself to ensure i can't go back to being a sucker. I've involved my family wih this from the outset so every day i promise my six year old that i wont smoke tomorrow. Its messed up i know, but its kept me from going back a good few times.

I'm struggling a bit with the idea that i'll always be a addict. Like george best was with booze or the average smackhead is for heroin, im addicted to nicotine. I always will be. For someone who's most prized possesion is self control thats a big blow to take, in that area of my psyche control is diminished. I wish they'd put it on the cigarette packets 31 years ago that if i started smoking i'd go through hell to quit it and probably be forever scarred by the experience.

Cvilleira and BigJay have both been a big help in getting my head round it all. A real couple of dark horses that pair.

Cheers for the concern fella's, still alive and kicking and about to rebias the marshalls.

..............actually, they did, in 1964, with the US Surgeon General's Report.
Only, they kind of said 'please' :?: instead of 'if you dont' you are totally
"f----d" :!: Added to that was the 'doping' of the tobacco with the agent itself.

Stop trashing yourself and start patting yourself on the back. You cannot take ownership of the addiction potential. That is a genetic issue. What you take ownership of is the recogition of it and the behavioral and lifestyle modifications incumbent upon one in the face of it. No different than Type I and Type II diabetes. Each with an etiology well understood and an approach to living with it.

Glad to hear you have something nice planned. You certainly deserve to have a bit of fun after the month you have just had. :D
