Good for you Nik, and cold turkey to boot. I have to do the same as my kids torture me everyday about them and the last thing I want to hear is I told you so. Plus hear in N.Y there $10 a pack which is just insane.

$10.00 a pack, $100.00 a carton. How many cartons for a Custom Strat?
Good luck with your quitting, there is some great new gear in your future.

Straycat you can do it mate. Theres a lot of fear involved in quitting for us longtime smokers. I was 6 when i started, i cant remember a time in my life when i was smokefree, except lastweek. Its quite a daunting prospect that a part of my life since day dot is gone. I kind of feel like 'how can i do this (phonecall, coffee, bandpractice, etc). That stuffs all over now i dont smoke'. Its not the truth, you can still do everything and more. You just wont have 3" of poison inbetween your fingers. The way nicotine gets you hooked is to invade every part of your brain at once. Convince you that you need it. Seize control of your hormones (much like heroin does) and tell you, you cant live without it. Anyhow i wont nag you into quitting. I do ask you though to look at the cigarettes you smoke at various times of the day. Examine how you feel about each of them individualy.

John E. Even my missus says i can have a masterbuilt 57 after 1 year smokefree. I'll be able to afford it too. Ive currently saved £56 and 18 hours of my life.

My yougest sister died from lung cancer back in 2001. The odd thing was that she didn't smoke long (about 5 years). I guess you never know.

Struggling a bit today mate. Felt great yesterday i even went and ran a couple of miles. Today has been really hard though, one long craving all day. I gave my missus all my money, bank cards, wallet just to safeguard me not buying any. Gonna go for another run in a little while, see if i can get my brain to say yes to a dopamine or endorphin release.

Really sad news about your sister mate. I've spent the last 3 days reading similar tradgedies, all people in their early 30's. I'm 37. Its a great aid/scare to keep you on the straight and narrow.

Gee! Was I just 30 years old when you were born? Seems like only yesterday.

Just keep plowing the road. It can only get better. As soon as the cilia begin to repopulate your respiratory tract, you'll be getting your natural protection back, likely in time for the winter flu season.

Wait until you find yourself backing away from smoker who carry the taint of it on their person, their skin, their hair etc. Anyone every tell you that your kids smell from smoke? All that sidestream smoke hasn't been helping them either.

Rock on dude, I am definitely in your corner. 8)

Doc

Hang tough, Niki. You can do this!

I quit in 1991 after smoking for 25 years. It was hard at first, but you will eventually get to the point where cigarette smoking is revolting.
And wait until you get your taste buds back. A lot of people think the typical weight gain is from having to maintain the hand/mouth stimulus.

But I think it is from actually being able to really taste things after killing your taste buds from smoking. Food, beer, wine - it all tastes magical again....
