Well said Martian. I thought it was understood that this was all "tongue in cheek" This is the friendliest and most helpful forum around. There are some exceptions just as there are in life, but for the most part all of us here are first class. :)

To all the New/Semi New posters,

This is just a joke. I will be happy to answer any question that I have some experience in, even if it is for the tenth time to one hundrenth time. I love this forum, it's just we see so many of the same questions posted. Again this was posted in jest.

This and what martian have said are true. I think you'll notice a lot of the funny/weird ideas here were posted by people who roll up their sleeves and pitch in when someone asks for help, and they are able to supply it.

For example Martian himself is very well known here for his technical knowledge. He is kind of our go to authority for many things, and especially anything to do with electronics.

How about:

Which colour of guitar makes you play faster?

This is a stupid question because everyone knows it's red.

Na!!!! That would be candy Green!!!!

Nope its definately red. Their 15 milliseconds faster over 3 octave Amaj scale played at the 5th fret. If you get the HSS model, with a maple board and a floyd, you may find it up to 17milliseconds faster than any green one.

The Green ones sound better and are going to be more collectable in the future though.

HAHA! surf green is my favorite color.... ever.

There is a funny smell and smoke coming from my ____ amp, should I take it for service? :D
(actually I believe many amps sound their best just as they catch fire! )

Also why does nobody ever use the magic of the forums "search button" before posting.

heres a commercial. (incase you havent heard of it yet...) check out goodsearch.com as a search engine! its powered by yahoo so your searches are great, plus for every search you do on goodsearch, money is donated to the charity that you choose. they have a listing of charities and you pick which one youd like to support. totally free and no strings attatched whatsoever. end commercial. :)

Who plays better with a mangled hand: Tommy Iommi or Django Reinhardt?

Did you walk to school or take your lunch?

What's the difference between a duck?

Some more highly pressing questions...

Nicolas Night or Mick St. John ?

Lestat or Dracula ?

Bottled or a freshie straight from the neck?

Which guitar plays better while you are resting in a freezer ?

Which amp is crypt legal and won't get you booted .

All kidding aside, and I've said it several times, the only dumb question is the question not asked. Further, as the history of these forums bear out, any coherent question on any level is virtually always answered without sarcasm to hopefully, the OP's complete satisfaction. We NEVER made a fool out of any OP's question.

As far as saying this thread is, "messed up". I wouldn't go that far. Rather, and I admit it, it was geared more towards us, "old farts" who have 'been around the block' a time or two. And, to give us a reality check too, yes, we probably pondered and asked many of these same questions when we were novices as well. I, for one, readily admit it.

Again, this was done all in 'geriatric' fun and rest assured, if you or anyone else for that matter has a legitimate question, regardless of the perceived 'level', it will in fact be treated seriously and answered without any sarcasm or demeaning undertones. We stand on our track record.

If you have been offended, I do apologize. Yet, as you can now see, this was clearly not my intention and I doubt very strongly, any of the other posters' intentions either.

I'm not offended at all man.. No need to apologize. I used to give preamp tube advice on the Mesa forum. Some of the questions could get monotonous and generalized when it comes to that too. "what are the best tubes for my________?" would probably be the #1 question asked. So I understand. Sometimes new lurkers don't though, and they get afraid to ask.

Every now and then some of the others would make someone feel stupid for asking a question about tubes. So then I would see a post by past lurker who would say, "I read up on Shredd's advice and my C+ sounds like crap!" (or something to that effect). Well.. That advice was given for a Triple Rec, for someone who wanted a Metal sound. In fact, some Mesas are set up to where V2 is actually the first gain stage. But they would feel cheated out of $100+ dollars, and blame it on my advice. Tube advice should definitely be done according to each individual.

Believe it or not, I've had to defend myself for actually having not answered someone's initial questions at all. Because they were afraid to ask me directly. Why? I don't know. But it's true.

So I guess that's why I get a little apprehensive with this kind of topic. Certainly not angered or offended. Either way, I understand, no apology is necessary. I wouldn't be on this forum if I didn't feel like the people on here really were that arrogant. I personally like the community here more than being on the FDP forum.

Excellent!

So do you have a burning, "question"; nudge, nudge, wink, wink?

Most of these questions don't bother me at all.
IF they are asked sincerely by someone who honestly doesn't know.

Yes, they can do a search of previous topics, and they can check those--but maybe they're new to online forums as well?

We all started somewhere.

When it's someone just post padding, or trying to be annoying?

That's a different story--we can all just ignore the threads if we wish.

As Martian wrote-
Quote:
the only dumb question is the question not asked.

I would add there is one other "dumb question"--although saying the only dumb question is the question not asked is a pun as "dumb" actually means the inability to speak.

So I'll say there are stupid questions--those are the ones that are intentionally stupid.
