id say get a Les Paul, if you got a strat and get a Les Paul you will be able to get almost any rock/blues tone.

as for an amp, id say get a Fender definatly. try all the ones in your price range side by side with the guitar you play most and find one you like for yourself.

Seems to me a Les Paul is great choice, the warmth of the humbuckers would be a great compliment to the single coil chime of a strat. So yeah good choice with the LP, really anything with some warm humbuckers would be great. Oh and yeah some great Fender amps out there.

Depending on how much money you have, I would say buy this:

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0137702392

It is a little expensive, but will do the job with flying colors. Also great for Rock. This one is a little cheaper than a LP, unless you really have your heart set on one.

If you are looking for a cheaper, but good guitar for the blues try this one:

http://www.squierguitars.com/products/s ... 0303010500

I absolutely love mine and does great for Blues, Rock, and Metal. You could even throw in some Humbuckers in this one as it has a HSH cut in the wood already.

Look a the Ibanez Semi Acoustics. Put that through a Fender Amp as well as your current guitar. Opens the door to the world of G.A.S. quite nicely. Welcome to the club.

Yeah I know where your at, looking for a second tool in the box. If you want humbuckers there are oh so many options. But you could always take a tele out for a spin, that'll give you some good tones you may fancy

John.E has a good point about an acoustic. I always had an acoustic and they kind of get overlooked talking gear. But I think there a must have as you can always grab it and run to play anywhere. On the electric front I would say something with humbuckers a Tele Thinline would fit your musical styles to a tee.

+1 for the acoustic.
Got the Tim Armstrong Hellcat (http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0968300021) and I'm in love with it.
The Classic Player Teles should suit your style fine, as well as a JA-90, or a Special Edition Custom Tele (humbuckers, split-coils...). Not to get into the Strats...
I personally went towards PRS, not Gibson, the SE series should fit any budget.
Good luck, getting the second guitar is always passing the GAS threshold. After it, there's no tell when it will stop. :D

I want THAT one!!!

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-50s-Stratocaster-Electric-Guitar?sku=510136#new

OR...

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Classic-Player-Baja-Telecaster?sku=512765#new

But then i would have to go to school, get a job, fail at that, get another job and a house, forget about a mortgage, buy it, sell it and buy it again, then it starts all over...

I think you should get a Epiphone vintage G-400, or a squier classic vibe '50's telecaster. Those high end squiers are really nice.

Amen to that! I played one, right up there with the Roadhouse.

My vote is for either an Humbucker equipped Strat or a a Telecaster. I've tried Les Pauls and SG's over the years and while they are great guitars, I prefer the feel of my Strats and Tele.

With an HH Strat and a good amp you can definately get the job done.

There have been many excellent suggestions so far. What we don't know is what the person's own thoughts are, other than the amp. Also, I don't think he's established what sort of pickups he needs. The Squire was a good starting place, for sure.

I believe that to play the blues, there's not one guitar that is better than the other. It's all in your style and finding a guitar that fits your style. And that isn't easy.

I own a Tele (from 1970), a Deluxe Player Strat and a Gibson SG Standard. I also have a Martin acoustic and an Ibanez bass. I used to have a LTD, but I didn't like it. Some people do.

As for amps, I wouldn't leave Vox or Marshall out of that mix. Once you decide to go all tube, the prices are pretty much the same... just rely on your own ears... and your budget.
