I'm pretty sure it was his stock guitar.

I decided to try a fretless specifically to be able to use a bow.
The bridge was unchanged from the standard Strat, but the nut was cut down to get the string action as low as possible.

I also found this finger bow to be much easier to play.

You may also want to take a look at EBow (http://www.ebow.com/).

Hi trj 1393: many tips for playing the guitar with a bow here:

http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/article/3 ... n-bow.html

Jimmy Page used a bow on his regular Les Pauls and Tele: no special adaptations. But I guess if you really wanted to get serious about it you could set up the saddles so that the strings have a very steep radius, like on a violin. That way you could reach all the strings individually with the bow. You'd then have to save that guitar just for playing with the bow, though...

Cheers - C

I used to play violin ages ago. I really sucked at it. The problem with a bow on a guitar is not enough clearance and the lack of curvature to the neck. You can play in open tunings and do effects though. The finger bow looks interesting. Rosin tends to stick to stuff though.

You're absolutely right. The fretless guitar requires occasional blowing off and real cleaning. Seems that sometimes the rosin almost turns to glue if not removed right after playing....it's still fun, though.
