I am not sure many out there will appreciate this, but I was thinking about this today.

Back when I was in college during the late 80s. I used to go see Johnny Shines on many a thursday nights. It was just him and his guitar in a small bar. I would drag my girlfriend and she hated ever minute of it.

I am not sure many people knew who he was, but I had a small appreciation. Late at night I would hang out after the show and we always got to talk for a few moments and had a beer every once in a while. He would tell me stories about how he used to play with Robert Johnson. They would travel together and "cut heads," which was have musical showdowns with local musicans. As I grew older, I leanred to appreicate his music more and more. If you ever have a chance, listen to some of his work...true delta blues. I feel fortunate that I kind of go to know a real blue legend.

That's great. Johnny Shines was a great performer and individual. He was interviewed on "In Search of Robert Johnson" by John Hammond. I'm sure you've seen it. If you haven't, it's a great documentary. I had a similar experience with David "Honeyboy" Edwards. He even showed me a couple of his signature turn arounds. I'm working on a website editing and scanning thousands of images of many blues greats that I had the privilege of photographing and speaking to at the Pocono Blues Festival over a five year span.

Delta Blues is as deep as it gets. Blues is the true Birth Mother of Rock and Roll.

I'll post the site when everything is complete.

Wow, you saw Shines live! I know Honeyboy Edwards too. I love hearing his story about when he was young.

Honeyboy's one of the older original blues gentlemen that is rock solid and so truthful in his stories. Nothing I've heard from him is embellished in any way. He told me Robert Johnson dated his cousin. He is an amazing talent still and just a nice person to speak to.
