I agree with you that there was certainly an element of that. There is always that "vultures row" that will pick every penny clean. I also question the motivation of some of the performers ... how many (even "partly") were there just to get this massive television exposure? That being said, there was a strong level of sincerity and reverence that underlined the event, which was refreshing. Certainly, the tears of his daughter at the end were motivated by nothing but pure anguish...
