Another thing about disclaiming liability is that you can't always avoid it merely by printing a disclaimer. If Fender hosts the site, sets a narrow body of rules, limits it to "members," you could argue that their role is more than passive.

Where you can be pressured is if a certain type of negative activity begins to happen and you're made aware of it. Both EBay and Craigslist have been forced to make modifications because of the arguement that you can't disclaim a "known" problem.

Thus if say sales or exchanges were limited to Fender items and could only occur between members, there's a certain implied "and Fender is going to make sure what you have really IS a Fender item ... right???" that may occur in some consumer's mind. So in the end, they're best off not offering it.

I yield to your point of view and stand corrected. I do now see a whole bunch of potential problems better left unrealized. Unfortunately, this is yet another classic example of the innocent having to suffer for the guilty.

I never even thought about the ebay thing as a matter of fact I told someone last week an item that was on ebay that he was looking for to help him out. As far as trading out of any forum this would be the one that I would consider doing it on.But there are and this is the truth a lot of problems on other forums and a lot of you guys know which ones that have the DONT TRADE WITH --------- HE IS A ------ LOL and also the old saying IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT might be best here.

I asked this same question some months back. Although it was pointed out to me why such an idea isnt possible I still think it has merit. Pity!

I think it would be a cool thing, especially from this site. All the experts are here, you would know what your getting for sure.

I also think it would in no way hurt Fenders business, it would probably help it.

Just my opinion... But it probably won't happen.

I was actually sitting in a lengthy meeting next to Fender's SVP of Global Marketing, Richard McDonald, on Friday and poked him on the shoulder and had him read through this thread. The notion of a dedicated Classifieds section is something he and I have discussed several times in the past as we are both gearheads and would LOVE to see a feature like this. The fact is, though, that I can't imagine how we'd successfully pull it off for many of the reasons discussed here. There's the liability concern -- for whatever reason when trades go bad on sites like these certain members of our society tend to take it out on the site hosting those items. But, in addition, this kind of activity is fundamentally counter to Fender's business model so it'd have to somehow be done in a way that is not fundamentally opposed to the notion of supporting our valued authorized dealer network. Long story short, it's great fun to talk about but of all the things we can feasibly achieve together around here I honestly think this one ranks fairly low in that list, unfortunately.

Well I'm impressed that our little discussion had made it that far up the corporate ladder! I think it speaks volumes about Fender for considering what their customers want. Thanks for listening. Now can you lower the price on a Clapton Custom Shop that I want?

You are correct Brad that the dealers that are authorized to sell Fender replacment parts such as necks and such may not like the idea that Fender is opening another area by assisting people to buy used parts from the open market and not thru there licensed dealers.

I think it would be great if you knew the people who posted. But this isn't a small forum "where everybody knows your name". In fact, as I post this there is officially 229762 members. There are so many other places to post or sell in person, it wouldn't be worth the hassle for this forum to do it.

Now if Brad knew somebody who lived in AZ and would work for the upper 5 figures to police this endeavor, then it'd be worth it (hint, hint).

I understand Fender's position, but always in the back of my mind is "Innovate… Don’t Emulate", lets make Fender.com the site where Fender lover could come for all sorts of music related information.

I was very sad to see the Fender Player's Club site go down, if you teach people to play, they will buy gear.

They may be people who want to record, but don't know much about about how to go about it. They hear Fender gear being used in recording, and would buy more gear.

Fender.com should be the first site that musicians look at first for musical info.
