I've noticed in alot of the other topics on music everyone mentions mostly 60's -70's rock or blues which is cool but does anyone have any prefferences for country if so who?

'Have heard the stuff which is out now referred to as, "Hyper-overproduced sequin-Steston pop."

Rather appropriate description to this mind. So far distant from what was Country & Western or Country Swing or Folk, there seems to be no resemblance.

This mind see an endles array of tedious vocals where the tediously-sleected, prefectly-formula-groomed singer gets all the attention and there is scant musicality apart forom an occasional fill by an unnamed, unthanked guitrist.

Personal feeling; "country" is less truly awful than rap, less cacophonic than death metal, no more appealing than either.

'Like to pick out an occasional Patsy cline or Johnny Cash melody, tho....

Never heard those words before but it sure seems to be true these days. At least for the super-commercialized stuff that a non duster fan, (like me) is likely to hear.

Thanks for the link, Mike. That was indeed a refreshing bit of country!

Have to agree with JSJH to an extent. However I do like some "Country Artists". Nashville in my opinion has become the new mecca of most American Music. They don't just produce Country anymore. Gospel, rock, soul, some rap, and blues can all be found in Nashville. You can throw a rock at a crowd in Nashville and you are bound to hit a musician of some sort. What some refer to modern Country has its roots in southern rock, blues, gospel, and traditional country. It really is an ecclectic blend of different genres and I think lyrically reflects traditional American values more than other forms of American music.

I take several business trips a year to Nashville. There has been nothing more humbling to me than taking a stroll down Hollywood to 3rd Ave. on any summer evening and stopping in at every little overcrowded, dingy, beer and sweat smelling honkytonk from Tootsie's to BB King's BBQ and hearing the talent playing for tips. Some are awesome and some sound average compared to "awesome" next door but all of them are better than I am. Heck those are just the "tourist traps". If you're lucky enough to get a seat at the Bluebird Cafe, tickets to the Ryman, or the Grand Old Opry there you will see some real talent...

There are so many talented musicians in Nashville. Two guitarists/songwriters that come to mind are Brad Paisley, and Keith Urban.

I agree with the statement "Country music ain't country anymore" I stick with mostly singer songwriters such as before mentioned Paisley and Urban and a healthy dose of Alan Jackson. Anything other than that is classic Haggard, Jones, Nelson, Waylon, Cash etc. As far as country groups i have found none better than Alabama and Diamond Rio. The new group the Zac Brown Band shows promise of good ole country boy music with a twist of jam band for the party. They are worth checking out for sure. Thoughts on Bluegrass? I think some of the best guitarist in he world play bluegrass. You just have to find some that's not overdone witih banjos and fiddles.

I am a big fan of the Texas Country/Red Dirt Country thing that is real prominent in Oklahoma and Texas. It is nearly Southern Rock, but not quite. Don't really care much for Nashville Country although I like some Brad Paisley and some Gary Allan

Top 40 Country is just as lifeless as Top 40 pop. The radio has been taken over by business men. Country has as little to do with its past as R&B.

I think it's funny that Hank Williams the 3rd is considered an outsider. he comes from arguably the most prominent country bloodline. His country stuff shares much in common with his grandfather. Including the the attitude. He really recalls the 'Honkey Tonk' roots.

I've never been big into Country either, but I like Brad Paisley's guitar playing and even bought his last CD. Country is much different now than when I was a kid. I remember the outfits with the sequines and rhinestones, they were called Nudie suits after their creator, Jamie Nudie. (As a kid I used to think Nudie suit meant something entirely different. ). There's a lot less steel guitar, too. Lots of young stars, top-notch songwriting, and excellent musicianship that seems to be missing from most of Pop and Rock today. Country is sneaking up on us.

i dig some country, mainly older traditional sounds. today's country might as well be mainstream pop, its hardly country anymore, i find i dont quite get into it.

i also take quite a liking to southern rock, which i suppose fits here.

i like the overall laid back feel of this style music...(enter Blue Sky by the Allman's)

tell ya what, i get much of my country fill from Grateful Dead. no really, alot of their sound is country-based. i like it alot
