I looooove some Freddie King. The King of the Kings. He had it. Unfortunately, he passed way too soon. I was barely 3.

Every time I want to try to get something more out of my practice I listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nNYD2LYYbQ from that same festival. Big Legged Woman too. Crazy line up with King, Dave Maxwell ripping the piano, and Deacon Jones making that Hammond cry.

Gotta throw in my other pre-practice video too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cz6LbWWqX-g Tone, tone, tone, tone, tone.

King and Collins are the top for me. That's what I shoot for, not that I'm even in the same hemisphere as them. I just aim high.

I haven't forgot about Albert Collins, back in the early '80s he asked me to join the Blues Breakers.

Wha? Yes, he did! At the time I was playing with blues shouter Piney Brown http://tinyurl.com/q89juk, Piney was Collins' mentor, and had played with him in the '50s.

So, each time that Collins played Gilly's, Piney Brown would open. It just so happened that I was in Brown's band when we opened for Collins. I guess the main thing that impressed Collins was my right hand.

Collins played a more funky blues, here my disco/funk technique really paid off

But, I was a single parent of two young kids, and they needed me more. I don't regret it, as I posted before, I was blessed to be able to meet, and be considered a 'bluesman' by my musical heroes.

I just got a email from Freddie King's brother, Benny Turner http://www.bennyturner.com/index1.htm. He was displaced from New Orleans due to Katrina, but has since moved back to the Big Easy.

He the bandleader for 'Marvelous' Marva Wright http://www.marvawright.com/.
