From RSS news feed:

A new Jimi Hendrix concert package has been given an August release date from Dagger Records, the official “bootleg” label created by Experience Hendrix.

Beginning Aug. 11, the Jimi Hendrix Experience Live 1968 Paris/Ottawa “fan pack” will the offered exclusively through Amazon.com. The compilation centers on two historic performances by the Jimi Hendrix Experience – Jan. 29, 1968 at the famed L ‘Olympia Theater in Paris, France, and Mar. 19, 1968 at the Capital Theater in Ottawa, Canada.

The recordings, along with a slew of bonus materials, are part of a two-disc compilation that includes both shows, and was previously only available via the Dagger Records website.

The Paris concert was recorded by the French broadcasting company RTE, features blistering takes on such classics as “Purple Haze,” “The Wind Cries Mary,” and “Little Wing.” The Ottawa performance was recorded by Hendrix himself, and features a “Hendrix-ized” cover of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” among other tracks.

The set will be available in two configurations, with the more expensive of the two including a colored vinyl album version of Jimi Hendrix Experience Paris ’67. Culled from a French radio broadcast, the album features performances of “Stone Free,” “Hey Joe,” and “Wild Thing.”

In addition to the Paris and Ottawa concert CDs, both sets will include a “Jimi” poster, a T-shirt, a postcard set that replicates classic Hendrix concert posters, a collection of ‘60s-style badges, a Hendrix iPod Skin, and an “all access” pass that unlocks special online content.

Janie Hendrix, who serves as president and CEO of Experience Hendrix LLC, issued the following statement regarding the release:

“The concept behind this ‘Fan Pack’ is to throw a spotlight on Jimi as a live performer and give a glimmer of what it might have been like to encounter ‘The Experience’ when Jimi had the band at its peak. Jimi never failed to stun and leave audiences breathless with his performance and guitar virtuosity and we think fans today will be no less moved by the offerings included in these packs. This release highlights Dagger’s role in serving fans who want all Jimi had to offer and can’t get enough of his legacy and genius.”

To pre-order either set at Amazon.com http://tinyurl.com/nla63r

Hell yeah. I've been waiting to hear Jimi's cover of Sgt. Pepper since reading about it in Room Full of Mirrors.

I have all of the Dagger releases too.

So when they say "the recordings, along with a slew of bonus materials, are part of a two-disc compilation that includes both shows, and was previously only available via the Dagger Records website," the bonus materials are not any music that hasn't been released on Dagger?

The bonus materials are T-shirts, posters, fancy packaging?

Yeah, that's the way I read it too.

What's confusing me is the term "both shows."

Don't those two Dagger releases with Ottawa material come from two shows performed there, an early and a late show? Add in the Paris, and is that three shows or two? Can "both" mean three shows?

At first, I was excited that maybe more of the first Ottawa show.

man im getting so annoyed by Janie's commercial madness. its cool that she's releasing this material and i hope to lay eyes on it, but she's totally turning it into a big marketing hype, and i mean with the whole Experience, LLC thing, not just these "bootlegs", as she cleverly calls them. what we have here is straight up exploitation and lack of respect for her own blood. JUST SET THE MUSIC FREE TO FLY AS JIMI INTENDED. i can only imagine how much $$ she's charging for these "bootlegs". she's turning into another Michael Jeffery

If Jimi were alive, these recording wouldn't be released. I don't know Janie Hendrix personally, but I have corresponded with her over the years via email, I feel she has the fans best interest at heart.

I have actual bootleg copies of all the recordings sold on Dagger Records, but they don't like the CDs. Eddie Kramer cleans and re-EQ all bootleg material, this is quite feat.....and he doesn't do this for free.

Usually every year at NAMM I have breakfast with Eddie and he always has great things to say about the Experience Hendrix.

So, Experience Hendrix charges a small fee to cover the overhead, they don't make that much money, if any, from the sell of the CDs.

These 'bootleg' CDs are truly a labor of love.
