My '87 Power Jazz Bass Special...it's the only bass I didn't buy, my grandmother bought it for me, my 1st real bass. I've been thru almost 30 some basses in my bass playing years, and this bass has been my main bass since I've gotten it...there were a few years others became the main bass, but this one keeps coming back on top :D

I agree with the "which family member would I save" poster. Almost impossible choice, but here goes.

If I could keep one 6 string (sorry, I know this is the Fender forum), I'd go with the Yamaha AES 1500. It's overall the most versatile considering range of tones (semi-hollow and both/either pup can be in single coil or humbucker mode).

If I could only keep one regardless of string count, it would be a splitting hairs decision between the SG RI bass and the 1983 MIJ Squire P-bass but the P-bass would win. The SG is slightly more playable (fast neck) and has the deep tone I like, but the Squire has the more recognized and classic Fender tone many expect in a bass.

My '76 Gibson SG Standard ... I have had it almost 30 years now. And if there was a fire, that thing is getting out right after the kids. I love my Strats, but they could be replaced. Honestly, the SG couldn't ... not for me.

..ofcourse it'd naturally be very difficult to see my crummy samick strat go. It's made for a wonderful first guitar.

Nice guitar rkreisher :)

mthomps07, your story made me misty-eyed. And thanks for posting the photos - what a special guitar, indeed.

I'm with the others who say it's impossible to choose, but it's only because the new baby's only been home for one night. In a few years when I own 500 guitars 8), I'll bet I would say my first one, the MIM Strat.

blues-man-wv, this is a great topic!

I've let go of a couple guitars over time and right now think I have the perfect lineup for me and what I want to do.

But if I really had to do it I'd probably get rid of both of my basses and my tie-dye strat, holding on to my Montara acoustic. Only because there's so much more you can do with an acoustic, playing an electric around the campfire or just to sing by yourself is pretty lacking with an electric.

Let's hope none of us ever has to make this choice
