How about: I changed my strings from 9's to 11's and it pulled the back of my bridge up. Did I do something wrong?

How about: "THINGS I HATE TO SEE....."

1) Cigarette burns on the headstock (or anywhere else on the guitar). It goes to show absolutely NO respect for the instrument.... duhhhhh
> Ever been in ANY bar-club-lounge with an in-house piano that DIDN'T have cig-burns all over it? No WONDER it's out of tune!!! LOL

2) Un-trimmed excess of strings sticking up-out-n-off the headstock, ready to poke your eye out if the giggling & wiggling around doesn't get you first. Who is THAT lay-zee & stew-ped? Hasn't the player ever seen a guitar catalog &/or been in a music store and noticed no one else does that?

I saw an article in the paper today about a guitar-playing principal of an elementary school, including a photo of him jammin' along-side a student. Naturally there were plenty of kudos about all he's done for the school and the children, yet the picture made me want to barf; Strings sticking up all over the Stratocaster headstock like "weeds gone wild". What a wonderful example he has set for those young, aspiring musicians......

It makes me wonder....
What would you think of the driver of a vehicle, going down the road with unused seat-belts hanging out the doors? DUHHH? or the muffler dragin' ?
What about catching a breeze and discovering your zipper isn't up and then remembering you don't have any undies on ????

"Well, ya' see Mr. Fire Marshall, I leaves da strings on my git-fiddle just-a danglin' oft da thing sews dat I kin im-pail inny size ciggy-weed on one of da ends an' dat keeps it from macon contact wit dis here axe o' mine..... an' now use tells me da ashes dun burnt down da club? Geeze....... I'm really (hic) sorry 'bout dat off-a-sir..... "

"Smoke it, stroke it or choke it...... don't try and do'em all at once-t, ya' dad-burn igg-it ma-roon!!!"

If your strap has any influence over your tone what-so-ever, it's in one of two things: Your personal attitude &/or you play an axe with a 'B' Bender. Of course, a strap with strap-locks helps to keep your guitar from losing its tone too! LOL (accidents are just waiting to happen)

I've been guilty of this one...Which pick-ups are better or what do you recommend?

Depends on what you mean by REAL..... as in ALL parts by Fender, 100% Made in USA, or 100% assembled in USA at a Fender plant, etc.

I know a guy who got parts off eBay and built up a really nice axe around a REAL but old Fender neck, yet the body is Squier and the rest is pretty much 'after-market'... pickguard, tuners, guts & pickups, etc. It certainly L@@Ks real, but isn't anywhere near 100%. Kinda like a junk-yard resurrected muscle car.

Obviously, you can do what you want with any guitar, until you sell it. Then, it's a different story. Ethics demand full discloseure...... otherwise you could be prosecuted for falsifying information in an ad and misrepresentation of that item sold to an unsuspecting & innocent party..... IE: Court, fines and even Jail time.

Fender is well aware of the decals out there that adorn Squiers, but as long as it was done by the owner and never sold, or sold with discloseure, little can be done to prevent such 'fakes'. Problem is, when the owner dies and these come up for sale, if no one knows the history of the axe, it could slip by as 'real'.

OK... you say 'experts' can tell by a serial number and "guts signatures". That can be a bit 'iffy' as well; most fakes are easy to spot, but a few might actually pass an expert's eye.

Therefore 'REAL' is only as good as the knowledge of the people you ask.

Ummm. Thanks, Guitarman - but the question was rhetorical ( hence the "Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.)

You're welcome, but I still feel the final statement says it all, regardless. :D

Besides, for anyone (else) who took or takes the question seriously, minus the 3 Stooges bit, was the reason I answered it.
