While I think it would be a cool idea if you could pull it off, I have some concerns that would probably count me out.

The main one is that if I was going to spend as much on a guitar as this would cost--if it were possible--I'd be very picky in what specs it had.
I don't like to buy guitars without trying them.

I'd be flexible in some ways (fret size & shape & material, nut material, pickups, pickguard, even body wood to a degree etc.)

If I had the spare cash I'd have already bought a 62 re-issue--it's basically what I'd want in a Strat.

If I custom ordered one I'd go for a spinoff of a 62 re-issue with a walnut body and maybe even a rosewood neck.

If I had the cash.

But right now a MIM 60's Strat is even out of my reach--I have other things I need to spend money on before I get another guitar.

But if you could pull it off--it would be cool, and I'd be cheering for you.

Hey zontar, don't worry it's a common problem. Just before I came up with this foolish idea, I was looking around for my ultimate Strat. I'll have to pile up money for a few years to buy myself a Custom Shop. There is always something to interfere with my plans, but hey, I keep the dream alive. Thanks for the cheering.

My ultimate strat would look like the fuse board on the enterprise, under the hood.
Clapton mid boost on a on/off switch so it can be completely removed from the circuit. Preferably via a on/off switch on the middle pot that controls the boost level
S1 with the all3 mixing series and parrallel option and the neck/mid capped option dropped in favour straight all 3 and neck/bridge option.
3 singlecoil sized humbuckers (although they must look like regular single coil) with a coil tap fitted to the lower tone control.

If anyone can come up with that diagram i'd be eternaly grateful
All that for a strat that does everything yet looks like a regular strat.

I think this is a great idea as well. And with the amount of people on this board from all sorts of background with one passion in common. I think it is doable. As long as your willing to put out money for something you've never played. If it's the right specs, that shouldn't be a problem. Or maybe rather than just a guitar, we could aim at a series, a whole line with custom colours, R/W or Mpl. I think that is taking it a little far though.

IMHO if it is going to be "The Fender Forum Strat" then it should be the guitar in the Forum logo.

-Alder body w/ Honey Blonde Finish
-Maple 1-piece neck
-Am. Std. Staggered Tuners
-Vintage Sync. Trem (w/ashtray)
-Black Pickguard
-Hot Noiseless PUPs w/ Black covers
-Parchment knobs, Trem Tip, Switch Tip
-Custom Engraved Neck plate with Forum logo w/guitar number 1 of XXX
-Fender Tweed case with Forum logo in lid (think 50th Anniversary)
-Chrome Hardware (although Gold would be classy)

I think with this list of parts, the price could be kept to a minimum. MIA or MIM, if they can make the Highway One for less than a Standard in US then they could this for us. If a group was started with a small membership fee ($10-20), that money could be used to build the prototype (Masterbuilt), which would be auctioned off to subsidize the cost of the following guitars in the series. I stand by everybody who says WE are the loyal customer base, we want one that is OURS.

To add to the mix:
A choice of Strat or Tele
Vintage colors and butterscotch (check out these colors here http://www.curtisnovak.com//restors/Fen ... ndex.shtml )
Ash or alder body
Rosewood or tinted maple neck

As I said before would it have to be a Custom Shop? I think it would be better if it was a Factory Special Run (FSR) to keep it within range of most forum members.

I agree.

Custom shop's are the creme-de-la-creme. There are alot (if not most) of us that can't afford something like that.

OK guys, it's time to let this thread sink for good. It was fun reading all the posts, educating and entertaining. So I took the next step and emailed customers relations at Fender with the suggestion to build a special run of Forum members Stratocaster. Now what will become of it is in the hands of the right people, and as I said from the beginning, I think it is a good project and I had to keep the dream alive. So now I'll have to wait and see. Keep your dreams alive and see ya all soon. :D

Hi Claude: sorry, can't quite let it drop yet.

Been hard at work in my laboratory of Strats. Well, OK: I printed out a quick Forum logo and stuck it on a guitar with double sided tape - but that's nearly the same.

How's this for a Forum Guitar prototype? The positioning of the logo is obviously up for debate...

Embarrassingly, I appear to have been completely drunk when that photo was taken. Well, it was past ten in the morning, after all...

Honestly, that was the least bad photo of the bunch!

Not one for an album cover... (Well, maybe covers of Dean Martin numbers...)
