They actually did this on the FDP many years ago, when the American Series was first introduced (2000?), with the cooperation of Fender. Here are a couple of caveats I can give from watching that process:

* A thousand guys said they wanted in. Less than 100 really ponied up the bucks.

* Those thousand guys argued endlessly/mindlessly about the specs of the "LE" guitar. Lots of people bailed because they didn't like the final specs.

Fender has already been through this routine once, and they know the pitfalls. Maybe someone who was at Fender when the FDP LA thing went down can offer some insight as to how Fender felt about it when it was all done.

I think it's a great idea also, but Slap Chop hit the nail on the head with the potential issues. Go to the Schecter Forum http://www.schecterforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=714. They attempted a members run and the whole thing fell apart because of what Slap stated, and other issues. To get a group like this (creative, artistic and talented)to agree on one model would be like wrangling cats.

It would be hard to get people to even agree to an FRS guitar many have there idea design. Me would like to get away from any kind of burst finish and have a color you don't see to often. 7up Green, Dark tinted maple neck W/ Red dots, Green finish headstock W/ Fender lounge logo at the top. Now the pickguard I would have to decide, I don't know what maybe a Red Pearl W/ Mint covers and knobs or Mint guard and dot matching knobs and covers
I don't know but its fun dreaming.

Claude this is just going to slide off of the front page soon. What ever you want to do we have at least 30 guys down .I think that is still a lot of guitars and even better if there one offs .But we have to keep this thing going and other people have to use there voices.Hey we are the real blue collar players which make up 80% of sales. If Fender can make a run of guitars for some wine drinkers that are going to hang there guitar on the wall like a clock and drink there case of wine that comes with it at $1,000 a bottle(I STILL DONT GET THE CONCEPT OF WINE AND GUITAR) well someone should do the right thing for us.Cmon guys this was a great idea and thats all its going to be if others dont make some noise.

And a custom neck plate.Any takers? See, this is how guys get started building their own guitars...! :D - C

Why don't we test the waters, show the commitment level by starting small. How about a custom neck plate or strap with the forum logo on it. Or even something like a lounge decal that you can put on your guitar or case. The logo shouldn't say anything but "Fender" so it can sell to non-forum members. Ceri hit the nail on the head, reminding us that t-shirts have yet to sell out, so we need to keep that in mind.

How would you guys feel about a LE pickup jumble?

We all know there are going to be the fly in the ointment and the negative attitudes, that aside I think we should be able to pull 20 guys from this forum who are down. And out of all the guys we have on the forum no one is a dealer.I think we have a Fender dealer among us,and be willing to eat any comission or whatever to do this. If I was a dealer I would do it in a heartbeat I mean we should have a lil loyalty well thats the way I think being an Italian from Brooklyn. I also think we can base it on a model like a lot of us might own say a deluxe,or standard but with some cool twist and $@!& that makes it special and I think after a model is agreed the only option should be you can have a maple or rosewood neck and then there should be no problems as that would be the biggest sticking point probably. Now this was not my idea but I think it was a good one so all I will say till something else comes up you can count me in .

Could even make a real nostalgia trip out of it via Sam Ash on Kings Highway. That's and oldie but a goodie.

Hi straycat113: I'm not sure I'm seeing negative attitudes on this thread: just people pointing out the obvious difficulties with a project like this.

Some of us are happy to go with other people's ideas for a T-shirt at $20. But most of us likely get a lot more choosy when it comes to the specs of a new guitar.

Do any of the spec sheets people have suggested so far appeal to you?

I'd certainly be up for one of these Forum instruments - provided I like the details and the price is right - say, Standard Strat type cost. For the price of a Custom Shop guitar I need my spec sheet, not someone else's...

Now. Is it going to be a guitar or a bass?

Cheers - C

I would really agree with this dude. That's probably because I don't have the money to buy the 'special forum members guitar', though.
I really can't afford that, being 16 and all... But I would be glad to help with anything I can do, although it's unlikely I'm needed.

But if you were to need something from the Netherlands, as BigJay sarcasticly dropped, I'm the man!

ow yeah, and the guitar sounds great guys, don't give up hope!

Yes indeed it was Doc.lol Ceri I feel ya and I understand but some guys are just throughing ridicules specs that nobodies going to go for.On a more serious level I did not come up with this idea,if I did I would of at least been prepared and had more angles covered. But I still think it was a good one.And maybe it dont get off the ground the first go round we can regroup and be better prepared for a future shot. To tell you the truth I really dont need another guitar and theres a chance I might not even ever play again (god forbid) but to have a shot at a limited Fender forum custom shop ax is special.Well lets wait and see what Claude has to say or if he has made any moves we dont know about. But I still would like this to have a pulse and not be DOA already.

Down to earth....just like this current giveaway that's running.....
