Yes this is a well known story that has been around for a couple of years.Thet have even done articles in magazines which line up time and frames from the film with the album .I have never done it myself but I am interested in checking out the youtube version.

They call it "The Dark Side of Oz" around here. Usually there is a theater that will play it once a summer. I think it is just coincidence, but certain sounds in the songs chime in with the movie. The cash register with the color transition, the song in the movie "If I Only Had a Brain" happens when "Brain Damage" starts, etc.

I tried it once years ago but nothing really was all that thrilling.

Maybe I just did it wrong... :?

We first tried it sometime in the mid-90's. It was fun, but I'm sure it's all just a coincidence. Actually, after about 20 mins, there was nothing sync'ing anymore.

I've read a couple of articles where this was tested and yes, the two do appear to synchronize. But they also concluded that it's pure coincidence. In fact, from the stats I know, you can probably find quite a few seemingly amazing line ups between any two fairly long works.

Math whiz and myth debunker Martin Gardner did a study where grad students used computers to "line up" the Bible with several long popular novels (in the 80s). Not surprisingly, any number of amazing coincidences and parallels were found. He went on to propose the point I mentioned above and others have duplicated his results.

When the heartbeat at the end of the album happens Dorothy puts her head on the tinman as if she was listening to his heart

Some pretty cool stuff

It's also possible to loop a couple of tracks from the Meddle album to Disney's Fantasia, which for instance includes Mickey snapping the broom during the spoken words of One Of These Days

Gilmour has commented that these myths come from kids smoking too much pot (he just said it in a nice way)
There's no real connection, but lots of fun though

If you abuse any substance enough, anything will seem to go with anything.

This Pink Floyd & Wizard of Oz thing has been known for at least 15-20 years now...or at least its been known by some of us for that long, as some are just getting to the party now or something. Better late than never...
