I had to look that up... pretty nice.

Okay... I know I've mentioned this in various posts here. But, I own a 1970 Telecaster with a Bigsby. I didn't follow the vintage market so I wasn't aware of it's value until I sat in with a band my friend belongs to. After he told me, I had to check it out. I've seen them on Vintage guitar sites selling in the $4,000 to $6,000 range. And they're much more beaten up than mine is. Who's paying that? I don't know...

Anyway, from what I can tell... a cut off date for vintage seems to be 1970. Growing up, I know I used to hear the term "Pre-CBS Fender" a lot. I knew I didn't have one of those. I checked on the Guitar Dater Project's web site and entered the Serial Number. It verified the date and it's place of manufacture, which was the Fullerton Plant.

I just never gave it much thought because it has always been my guitar. And it is no longer original. I had to replace pickups and the selector switch. I know the collectors don't like that... but as I said it has always been my guitar and I wanted it to be a playable guitar.

I saved the old parts... but, I don't think I could ever sell it anyway. It's the only guitar I own that I named.

Thats good that you save all the parts because as you said changing parts kills the value. Astray covers are one thing to find and replace but original 1970 pickups are another. I am guessing the switch was bad but they can also be found with some looking and moola. A guitar can look great but if the parts are not original the effects on value are drastic.

I had to put new tuners on the EPI but I kept the old ones. The pick guard has a few cracks in it, as it floats above the body contours. Poor design by Gibson/Epi. The luthier repaired it from behind. I figured a cracked pick guard with that emobssed E is worth more than new replacement. Needless to say there aren't a lot out there. I put $400 into it to get it up and running. Elderly has one for $1000. It's really more for sentimental reasons, but I still play it. Took me 2 years to pay my dad back for the guitar and ampeg amp, so I'm hanging on to it.

this is as close to Vintage as I've got.

1974 Stratocaster, bought at a pawn shop in 1981 for $125 with the case!

Come to think of it, I'm glad I was able to buy a new '65 in 1967.

I also still have the Champ amp I bought with the guitar. That little amp was a champ for reliability. The power switch got a bit flaky over the years but it still works.

I guess the smaller one in this picture (not the Fender CD-60) is a vintage or more like antique. I got it from my grandmother and it is the guitar she learned to play while growing up.

Here's another vintage Strat. A 1971 two-piece maple neck (maple with maple fingerboard, no skunk stripe) four bolt attachment.

1966 Teisco Del Rey , luthier told me its one of the first japan made guitars to enter the us market. There is slight warping from the 12th-22nd fret pom the e and a string. not alot but here n there.

Other than that the guitar has a raw sound and it very very light

in 1957 the chicago music co bought epi, they also owned gibson and i guess throughout the years gibson is their own company and epi is like what squire is to fender.

i have a epiphone tony iommi g400 sg and it plays and feels good
