What's with a band where a band member insisted the band's name was their last name......Van Halen.....Bon Jovi......all ego....no soul. :P

I stand corrected!!! seriously, that shows you how much I know about VH.....not my cup of tea but if you like them and they inspired you that's great.....I think my generation got spoiled, Keith, Brian Jones, Mick Taylor, Clapton, Beck, Page, Hendrix, Peter Green, Santana, John McLaughlin, Frank Zappa and even a guy like Martin Barre in Tull, Leslie West or the guys in Savoy Brown are tough acts to follow. I can think of 4 or 5 great B level bands from that era that are a cut above most that have come after....what you may perceive as bashing is comparison.....tapping never moved me much...technique that leads where? The whole 80's thing seemed like speed over substance, all rock....no roll....

Didn't VH start out as "Mammoth"?

I don't care what their name was there is no way people weren't going to be talking about the guitar player of the group............

I'm not all that crazy that he inspired a "how many notes per minute can you play" following that led to a lot of "souless" music but you do have to acknowledge his "disection" of the instrument and his incorporation of his findings.

Maxwell, we come from the same generation of guitar players ans you had to overlap into the Vanhalen era. My whole point of this post was that including myself there is a lot of Eddie bashing going on these days and all things aside I think it is a bit out of hand. I do not worship at the temple of Vanhalen but I know greatness when I see it and yes I am a big fan ,more of his playing than of the band. I am not a tapper but the guys playing floors me and it is not his fault a million guys cloned themselves after him but the guy to me took the guitar to a place where Hendrix left it off and his playing has always been creative and tasteful.Like I wrote earlier I felt the same way when I hear all this negativity pointed at Clapton another guy I love. So many people feel after Cream he turned to $@!& which I find ridicules the guy has had a 5 decade career how many people can say that. Well to each there own I mean should we rip up Stevie Ray because just about every kid that picked up a guitar to play blues since his death has tried to be a Stevie Clone and dont understand there is only one SRV so take a few things you got from him and take a different road and be yourself.

Eddie will always be in my top 10 guitar players of all time. That being said I think it's things like this that put me off to him as a person.

Yeah he probably has a case but come on. I think it's just a way to get attention to his own products.

A Trademark is a Trademark............What's the difference in creating a song or a custom paint job?

They have other designs of the same shoe........It's going to interesting to see how much money will be spent on this fight when all they have to do is stop making "one design".

I'd rather see them pay somebodys' mortgage.

Yes. And if memory serves me, they were "the Trojan Rubber Company" before that.

The thing is that Nike is CLEARLY using the Van Halen artwork. In these types of Copyright infringement cases, you have to agressively go after each one. If you let one go, then you can - in the eyes of the court - be setting a "precedence" of approval.

Exactly right. Although I'm sure you meant "precedent."

This thing is a business, and people who work in the business know it's a business. But fans (of TV, movies, music, whatever) tend to talk about their icons as if the entire entertainment business was a junior high-school lunchroom, running on who is "mad" at who or who is most "stuck-up" or something.

That's not how it runs. It's just a bunch of people turning a buck. And suits are too expensive to be used as publicity stunts: you sue when you have to. You don't even call your lawyer to say "hi" unless it's Armegeddon.

I just read that EV got married again. Whatever he is doing he looks a lot better.

Val was there to wish him well and I think we should all do the same. He's been through a lot.
