some told me a PRS custom 24 can get a Gibson-ish Tone to a Fender-ish tone. Is the PRS custom 24 as close to the middle?

I'd go for a clapton strat or a gibson nighthawk. Do gibbo still make them?

Gibson Nighthawk was discontinued. Pity, it's a pretty good axe.

Look out for the perfect match? Sorry I couldn't find the add in English, but here it is in universal language.

I'd try more than simply that one PRS. There's bound to be one that's a better fit

In promotion of Fender product, I would ask you to try a Special Edition Custom FMT HH Telecaster.

http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0262000520

It is lighter in weight than a Les Paul, has a bound fingerboard that feels like Gibson and carved body like a Start, Jumbo frets and SeymourDuncan Humbuckers. It really is a Les Paul in disguise. With the push/pull coil tap you get the best of both worlds. I have been looking at out of production Gold Top models for months on EBay.

It is funny you guys brought up the nighthawk I was just scoping out a pair on ebay the other night. One is by you Niki in the U.K. I have been searching for one a long time but they stopped making them so long now it is hard to find them in decent shape although these 2 were .As far as the comparisons I would say a PRS is much closer to a Gibson than a Fender .They are some of the most beutiful guitars going but they just dont do it for me .All 3 models I have tried I never liked the necks and the prices are just ridicules I mean you would have to have Santanas money to feel comfortable gigging that guitar just to expensive.

I looked at PRS as an in-between, especially if the trem is important to you. For a lower-priced model, the SE Custom comes with a wraparound tailpiece, a trem, and in your choice of humbuckers or P-90s.

There's also a semi-hollow that I'm very interested in buying... it's got a Rickenbacker-style hole (a slash, rather than an F), and comes in a lovely natural finish. I blame Kevin Hearn (of Barenaked Ladies) for this one.

There's a new Taylor solidbody with swappable pickup units mounted on the pickguard, if that sort of thing appeals.

Personal opinion; save your cash and have both a Gibson and Fender. It sure is good for a long-term smile.

Schecter C1 Classic maybe. Strat style body, electronic layout, and scale length, Gibby style bridge, humbuckers, 3 on-a-side tuners, and set-neck. The tones are unique though.

G&L makes the ASAT dlx with 2 HB's and coil taps. For me it's a great all around axe for the gibby, fender thing.

Such an interesting post. There are a lot of guitar makers out there that aspire and create either a Fender like or gibson like tone. Some of the guitars are expensive and beyond, while others are priced along the lines of both makers. To really answer your question the stule of music you play effects any decision you make. My suggestion is to go to a local store, talk with a saleperson and see what he suggests. Play a few different models, then try to get to another store and do the same. You don't have to buy, no matter how much pressure they may put on you. Then you will have a more intelligent opinion as to which guitar is best suited for yur needs. Unforunately, there is no one answer to your wuestion.
