I have a confession - I was never aware that the great Leo Fender was THE inventor of the electric guitar.

This simply makes me the more proud to own whatever Fender's I have.

Thanks Leo :D

For what it's worth, Leo Fender was the creator of the first commercially successful solid-body electric guitars: the Esquire-Broadcaster-Telecaster family.

Perhaps more importantly, he developed the first fretted electric bass guitar--the Precision Bass. In my opinion, that's his greatest single contribution to music.

Leo Fender was sort of like the Henry Ford of guitars... He may not of came up with the invention, but he created a way to produce a quality instrument at an affordable price with his design.

The history of Fender is right on this site... still an amazing feat, though.

Ah, well you'll have to excuse the "Music Theory For Dummies" book then  Seems they were a little nonspecific.

And in some respects, the electric bass did more to advance popular and small combo music than the 6 string. Jazz/Big Band/Orchestral bassists of the time for the most part had no interest in Leo's invention but it was picked up by bassists in small pop combos right away. In terms of impact, the bass guitar has been a huge part of music.

Nowadays, there's high quality amplification designed for double basses but back when I started (mid-60s), there wasn't much. So you either played an electric bass (guitar) or resigned yourself to being seen but not heard. Not being much for looks, I went for being heard!

Heck, I even converted my purist dad eventually by pointing out that the sound I get from my P-bass is very close to that of a double bass. Except "notice you could hear me in the 10th row!"

So thx Leo!!!
